combatcomm1 234 Posted December 21, 2013 This idea has probably been mentioned at some point in the last 2 years of this concepts existance but I wanted to bring it to the forefront again in case some devs never saw it or forgot about it. ::TLDR Below:: Assuming dogs are still in the development plan. Dogs are very attune to human emotions and intentions. They can sense adrenaline, fear aggression, all that. So my suggestions are a couple things to help alleviate kos, no consequence banditry, and promote good behavior. 1. Most people know that serial killers and people who would kill their fellow humans, especially in a drastic situations like a zombie outbreak where they should be grouping together to fight the hoard are usually not very kind to animals. In fact many serial killers start of killing, torturing and abusing animals. What if one of the consequences of banditry is that you CANNOT HAVE A LOYAL DOG accompany you. This is where it gets a bit gamey but still has some roots in realism. Don't think about you as the gamer, with no consequences or reason not to kill another human. Think about it in a realistic sense. You are a bad person who is indiscriminately in most cases killing human beings. Lets say that the dogs can sense that hatred, fear, whatever it is that drives you to kill in a murderous manner. Perhaps it goes on some sort of scale, where the more humanity you have the more loyal your dog follower is. Low humanity causes dogs to sometimes just up and leave. They sense the fear, hatred and lack of calmness, know you are not a pack leader or alpha and leave. Maybe something in the world can be found or built or gain that would allow bandits with low humanity to have dogs.. Maybe pit bulls or zombie infected dogs that they contain somehow. 2. For those of us with high humanity and loyal dog followers. What if our dogs help to alert us of bandit presence in some realistic way. Some script that can make the dog growl if certain realistic conditions are met. The bandit is close, the bandit has you in his/her cross hairs, the bandit is starved, low on blood, moving and being loud?? I have camped many times in the wilds with my dog and I wont hear a thing and he will be looking out into the woods growling. Kind of scary actually knowing he can sense something out there that I cant. I am not sure of the exact scripting commands available to the team but something like this could warrant some thought. Any other realistic and interesting benefits regarding dogs you guys can think of. ::TLDR:: Your a bandit, cant have dogs or dogs are not loyal and leave often. Your a good person, you can have dogs, they are loyal and can alert you of any violent aggressive intentions of bandits nearby.

SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted December 21, 2013 It's a novel idea but.. realistic? No. Dogs don't have a "moral compass." A well trained K9 will attack anyone on their handler's command. They don't really care if you're a good guy or a bag guy. You feed it, so it grows dependent on you. I do like the idea of the dog being able to detect other people, but based on humanity? Not so much. A non-bandit player might still kill you.
ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted December 21, 2013 Only if my bandit dog helps me sniff out "good guys." Deal?
