ok, this could have been a badass sniper, from far far away, no shots heard...

 

Walk in the woods... You are dead...

 

Noone around, no shots heard, no axe swung... simple dropped dead... when I tried to bring up the inventory.

 

Anyone else with seemingly random deaths?

Gun shots are kind of glitched and the sound doesn't travel that far.  So if a sniper saw you from far enough away, he could of taken you out without you hearing the shot.

Actually, that is technically possible. Rifle rounds are supersonic, meaning they travel faster than the sound of the shot.

Correct, however I've noticed that when you are on the dead screen you can still hear things happening around you.  Which means that if the gun shot was close he still could of heard it.

Just had this also just now. 

 

1: Logged out last night between Pustoshka and Vybor out in the woods, middle of nowhere, hidden in a bush. 

2: Server I was playing on last night was down so I connected to a new server. 

3: Spawned in, everything fine, got up from prone, took one step forward

4: "You Are Dead" 

 

Instantly, no gunshots, character was not thirst or hungry or ill, blood was not low, population of the server was about 5 people out of 40 which would make the likely-hood of getting instantly sniped in the middle of nowhere in a 250km squared map pretty low. 

 

I am pretty sure it's a bug of some description, but what triggered it I can't say.

Can confirm there may be a bug at hand. Was checking out the boat on the east coast earlier today, scoped around on deck for anything around me. Nothing in sight so I quickly crouched down to check my gear and boom - You are dead. Maybe it was a decent sniper, maybe it wasnt.

Ive died twice like this, one on a ladder while climbing and another in a room while checking gear, only one entrance and instant dead as there was no one in the doorway and no one able to shoot me inside an apartment on a ladder

So something is amiss, either hacking or a bug

Confirmed. This has happened to a friend of mine earlier today. Logged in, made 1 step and dead.
