Basements [Possible solution for server-hopping]

Recommended Posts

Hey there!

Recently this idea has came in my mind. You probably have noticed small doors on back of some houses that would most likely lead to basement. The idea is to make actual basements underneath some houses that you could enter. Beyond would be shelves or cabinets where you could store your stuff.
You should also be able to somehow barricade the doors of basement. This would be a great way of creating player bases, also it could possibly fix switching servers, encouraging players to stick to one server.

What's your opinion on this?

I think it would be a good addition  to create something along the lines of a base. Since there are already a LOT of enterable houses in the standalone, it would be cool if you were able to barricade just a few doors of them. You could do so by gathering 3 items, like a wooden plank, a hammer and nails, which would barricade one door for a limited period of time (say 2-3 hours) before it would fall off. To properly secure a little house, you would need these 3 items (the hammer could be reusable) for EACH door, which should not make it OP. Then you could spend some time in that house for whatever reason, and anybody trying to open it will get the message "the door won`t move". This could enable a little of a safe spot for players. If they are chased by a bandit, they could just barricade the door and lay down on the floor, not enabling the bandit to shoot the guy through the windows. and even then the bandit would have to wait for a few hours do let the barricade weaken, or use a rare, heavy item that breaks through the door. If something like this was implemented, i think it would be good not to make it usable on the main entrances of the big apartment complexes tho. This could be overpowered if used by a big group. I think the idea of a permanent base does not fit into the apocalypse tho, since the feeling of security shouldnt last too long.

I think that the barricades should stay unless someone kicks the door open, for example. Yet by doing that you could hurt yourself. It would obviously not be a permanent base, but a temporary place to feel safe. Imagine coming across someones little basement base filled with supplies. Gives the gameplay another aspect, something else to do rather than KoS.

This would do nothing to prevent server hopping as you could easily hop around server until your heart is content and then reconnect to your 'home' server.

Hm, actually you're right.

I thought that you were going to suggest that you had to use the basements to leave the server! anyone who leaves the server any other way forfeits all their ammo - might cause some tears from people who crash, but who cares? at least it would go some way to stopping hopping military spawns!!
