Dayz for Arma newcomer?

Recommended Posts

I have never played any Arma games before but i've watched a lot of Dayz and it looks very good. So would i be able to learn the game quite quickly without ever playing Arma and if so are there any simple tips you could offer me?

Must agree with ThatGuyCalledReptile, that atleast starting tutorials should be done.

DayZ isn't a game which you can learn in a second.

Be careful, young Survivor :)

I never played ARMA or ARMA2, if you are generally speaking someone who is above average to good in a lot of video games, you will manage without. Otherwise, tutorials... yeah.

before you buy arma 2 for day z, make sure you fully understand where the mod is planned to go and what the initial design concept/goal was. too many new players have been getting upset at updates that implement things that have been discussed in interviews four+ weeks ago. they also misunderstand the concepts behind the mod.

having said that, the controls and gameplay are complex and do take some getting used to. you'll likely have to do a fair amount of research/reading, or ask questions. if you do have question feel free to pm me.

this thread is also a handy resource for day z stuff (a bit outdated though, there's no more bandit skins):

By "Play the tutorial missions" he mean the tutorials of ARMA II.

If i could offer any tips i would say always scout a area your about to approach from distance, Hold right mouse to zoom in and check for other players or infected, Take note of what way they are facing and where they are going, You can only get so close while crouching, Then go prone and stay with the infected's back to you, Every now and then checking around you.

ALWAYS go prone across roads, In built up areas avoid shooting unless your life really depends on it .. Shooting will attract hoards of infected & other players/bandits! .. When in built up areas always stay tight to buildings and if you have to crouch hold shift while walking.

Although airfields/strips & citys do have the best loot they also have the most zombies & bandits/murders, Be aware of this. You much more likely to be killed by another player at a city/airfield/airstrip than another area of the map imo.

This is possibly the most unforgiving game i have ever played and you WILL die a lot at first ... Don't be put off by this.

Oh and possibly the best advice i can give .... Real life players are always more deadly that zombies.
