Is there a way to reset all of my control preferences?

Recommended Posts

I started DayZ while I had my wired 360 controller plugged in, after playing some Batman...Which made my mouse cursor invisible (it's still there, but it only updates it's position on the screen when I left-click)...

Is there a simple way to undo this issue? Is there a config file where I can stop the game from recognising the gamepad and reset all the controls to their default state?

Is this a deliberate punishment for me owning a gamepad for certain games? lol

I can still play, but not being able to see the mouse makes managing the inventory even worse than it was in Arma 2 lol

Cheers!

There was a bug that did reset your controls if you change your (steam-)name. Not sure if it's still there.

Keybindings are saved in the profile file located at ...Documents\DayZ Other Profiles\YOURNAME\YOURNAME.DayZProfile

You could try just to delete it. If it's not recreated you could then validate your files through steam. If nothing helps I could pastebin my complete config for you.

PS: There really is no button in the menu to reset everything to default? hrmmm

Unfortunately all that did was delete my character (but I was able restore them)...

I'm trying a full reinstall to see if that helps...but if it is somehow tied to the hive, I am screwed until they roll out a fix...

Deleting local content through steam and reinstalling does not solve this issue either...

I will try it on my laptop and see if this bug is actually tied to the cloud somehow...bizarre.

It runs fine on my laptop...It must be a local setting of some kind that having the gamepad plugged in has changed...

Anyone have any ideas?

Go to My Documents > DayZ  and delete the three config files. The game should create new ones for you.

There was only one config file in that folder, and deleting it did reset my graphical settings, but the invisible mouse cursor issue is still persistent...I'll see what I can find it the local app data folders of my documents.

Cheers for the help though!

My bad. The other two aren't config files, they're DAYZPROFILE files.

My bad. The other two aren't config files, they're DAYZPROFILE files.

Unfortunately it is still persistent...All those other files do is delete my current character (but they can be restored).

I have also deleted the files located here C:\Users\"My name"l\AppData\Local\DayZ

This caused the mouse to lock up and I had to do a hard reset of the machine, but after a restart, the issue is still there...It's as if having a gamepad plugged in when I started the game has changed something, somewhere, but what...I have no idea...

Is there a way for me to totally disable gamepad support on my end and perhaps reverse this issue?

I guess it might be a good idea to warn people that starting DayZ with a gamepad plugged in is a really bad idea if you ever want to see your mouse cursor again lol...

Oops, the .vars file does appear to be some kind of character data... Although I'm not sure what exactly...

The file simply called whatever your name is is purely a settings file though. I'd try deleting that and letting the game create a new one.

I believe there is an enable/disable button under 'devices' in the controls menu.

Yep, tried the devices thing, but there are no devices listed in it with just the mouse and keyboard, and with the gamepad, the gamepad is listed as disabled...

I have deleted everything apart from the vars file and am going to try another clean install. If that doesn't sort it, at least I can play on lower settings on my laptop.

Cheers for the help! I have reported the bug, so hopefully it is on the list of things to be fixed :)

If you're reinstalling then go all out. Delete the DayZ folder in My Documents and the one in AppData too so that everything's 100% freshly installed. Good luck!

No Joy...What a bizarrely persistent bug. I can still play the game ok, but it makes navigating and using the (normally very user friendly) new inventory a bit of a nightmare...lol

I guess I can do nothing but wait for an official fix. I am kind of confused about why the game would even recognize a gamepad in the first place :P
