How to update game version?

I just downloaded DayZ and can't connect to any server as it says bad version, sorry about being a bit n00b but how do I update it ?

To check which version you have, start the game and look to the top right in the main menu.

 

Then look at the server list and it will tell you which version the servers are running.

 

The current release build is 113860.

 

To get the correct version, first go to steam, right click on dayz>properties>betas and select NON-opt out of all beta programs.

 

Then Local files>verify integrity of game cache

 

and steam will update to the released build

 

You can also set steam to automatically update.

 

steam>right click DayZ>properties>updates>High priority-always auto-update this game ASAP.

That's how steam works. Sometimes it just takes a while until the automatic update starts. If that's the case but you really want to update as fast as possible you can use the steps given by Fluxley

Steam would not automatically update updates for some people so I know they sent out an update that I downloaded yesterday that seemed to fix the issue. If it won't let you connect to servers, try exiting the game and seeing if it says "Update required" in your library for DayZ.

 

It did for me for one of the earlier updates when it was still on 0.28 so I just clicked on "Play" and Steam prompted me to update the game before launching.
