Instant cure for maniacs

Recommended Posts

Here's the problem:

A lot of PKing in game is not realistic. I like the idea of banditry - attacking other players to take their stuff when you actually need it (although I never do because I hardly ever need anything), but attacking when you don't need their things, or when you're likely to get hurt yourself isn't being a bandit, it's just being a retarded maniac.

There are two root causes for this problem. First, unrealistic game mechanics. None of the reasons people don't attack other people IRL (risk, morals, bad rep., etc) are represented in game. Second, and more important, is boredom.

Rocket claims that this is zombie apocalypse as it would unfold.

In my opinion, the actual experience is more like "this is zombie apocalypse as it would unfold if all survivors were replaced by respawning shooter fans, given guns, and nothing to do except loot and shoot each other".

---------

So what do we do in response to this unrealistic behavior? Apart from bitching on the forums and asking for new gameplay mechanics - behave unrealistically ourselves, of course.

Unlike real life, there is no reason to actually care about being killed:

All of the essential equipment is easily replaceable.

There is no feeling of defeat as you weren't playing the same game - you're playing a survival sim and the other guy thinks he's playing a weird FPS. Someone kicking your chessboard doesn't mean you lost the chess game, you know.

You get to have fun looting again! Honestly, after you get a few basic things there is not that much to do except help other people - zombies are not much of a threat if you don't do something stupid, and getting bigger&better assault rifles is sort of unnecessary.

----------

So, just play the game whichever way you want, and every time you get randomly sniped thank the maniac - after all, he adds variety to the gameworld, and does a largely thankless job of being bored on a roof with a sniper instead of playing DayZ, or one of the shooters he's used to.

Best wishes,

Daniel.

I would agree with you if this was the final game. But it is not. The game is being developed as you play, and most of the things you say will be done. The player's behaviour will adapt as the gameplay changes

The best way to help the game out is reporting bugs, suggesting features and helping the community in general.

Don't get mad if a alfa-tester shot you in the back with an overpowered weapon that will get fixed in the next patch (just saying this as an example).

I'm getting tired of the whole "it's an alpha" argument.

So what? Does this mean we can not discuss the game and player behavior until beta? Oh that's right, then we'll get "it's a beta" and then we'll get "this is not the final patch".

If you notice, I'm not whining about the game being broken (as it indeed may get fixed later), I'm simply offering an in-game solution to an in-game problem.

Best wishes,

Daniel

I absolutely agree with the OP.

I get bored pretty fast if I don't find many survivors or if they are all just friendly.

I like guns. Real, toy, in a video game. Guns are fun. I like to shoot things with guns. Shooting at real people in real life is bad. In video game is not. I like hunting things. Most things are not challenging. Humans are challenging to hunt. They think. They think a lot. They think intelligently a lot. I like to hunt things that can kill me back. I cannot do this in real life or I will get in trouble. The only game that allows me to hunt people on Kilos worth of open space is Dayz since Arma usually has scripted missions and less people play. Also when I kill people in games, the more mental stress and anguish I cause them the harder my boner gets. This happens a lot in dayz.

If it is a game that has guns and allows me to make others miserable, I love it.

I love Dayz.

=)

Wrong. Most maniacs hunt bandage newbies or carefree survivors like myself, who are not challenging to hunt at all. If you were after a challenge, you would hunt other maniac snipers in Cherno. Or, you would play a shooter with a level playing field.

... So you do it only because you're a sociopath and can't get enjoyment otherwise. Let me guess, you also spit in other people's drinks when they're out of the room and watch rape porn when your parents aren't using the PC? Cute.

As I said, I'm not against maniacs. The game would be hella boring without you guys. But it's just sad to hear such motivation.

Best wishes,

Daniel.
