newest patch-less guns-newb question-thanks

I had some great success with my first question regarding the mouse wheel and the forum group. Thanks to anyone who helped me with that. This one is a tad more abstract and I believe the vets may be able to give me a idea of what I am seeing.

Finding a lot of car parts, chem lights, bandages, but oddly only once finding a gun, to be tech two guns in the same barn. With this new patch the game seems to be different than the rash of youtube based videos that led me to the game.

Basically my question is:

1. After this latest patch are firearms much harder to find. I seem to be having great trouble getting any. In the past it looks like you could get them almost anywhere.

Any ideas, tips, to help me out.

Guns are found sporadically. Discovery ranges from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. It's all a matter of patience.

I wondered around for 15 minutes before I found a gun, then I found quite a few. If you can at least find a hatchet you'll be slightly better off, so you can at least take on a zombie or two silently if you're spotted.

thanks for the reply, by discovery zone, do you mean you can check the same area at a different time and their could be a new spawn of loot?

Be wary, however, the crowbar is a pile of moose doo-doo. It takes 3-4 hits to kill one zombie.

By discovery I mean how long it takes to find a gun, assuming you're constantly searching.

before the patch i'd always head to barns to look for guns, or deer stands, whichever was closer. i preferred barns though because the guns found there tended to have more abundant ammo. i pretty much do the same thing now, and have really only encountered guns in barns/farm buildings so far. haven't made it successfully to any deer stands yet, but only tried once.

The best way to find a decent weapon with minimal risk is deer stands IMO. Most are located at the edge of the forest with the ladder facing the forest, and the zombies spawn in front of the towers out in the open. So you're only going to aggro zombies if you are reckless or very unlucky.

[/quote']Agreed, barns are trickier than they used to be. With the new patch you'll frequently find zeds in the barn itself, one of my favorites typically has two to three "residents." If you wander in there without looking it can be a nasty surprise.

Tree stands, as mentioned above, are usually a bit safer if perhaps less lucrative. That being said I found a tree stand that had a live zed in it as well.

Guns aren't any rarer as far as I can tell. You will just never find a sidearm since those have a (personal view there) extremely low chance to spawn. You will mostly find primary weapons.

Even in dire situations.

Just today I came across a Lee Enfield with 2 mags in a house as I was being chased by 2 zombies. Even though they can't walk through doors, they can still open them, so I died. :<

Look in barns, at the docks and in houses. And, for bigger things, the airfields (Balota, NW, (NE), (Cherno)).

this is definitely true, there's often zeds lingering around in barns which ups the risk factor. it can be remedied if you have empty cans, whiskey bottles, or flares to draw them out though.
