By cans i assume you mean boxes.

 

Step 1. Put box on ground.

 

Step 2. open gear in close vicinity of ammo box.

 

step 3. Profit.

Protip: Don't use ammo boxes in buildings. They tend to disappear but on the ground they're fine. If you're just planning on taking ammo out then just put it in your hands but if you're putting different ammo into it then you'll have to drop it on the ground. It's best to do it quickly because of the lack of server restart warnings too.
