Late Game Ideas

Recommended Posts

I wanted to get a discussion going on what people would like to see when they reach a late game in their playthrough.  Spur thought using proposed mechanics or just in general.

From what I've seen with the mod (generally), is it moved from survival to just kitting up to become kill squads.  Nothing wrong with that, but from see how deep SA is getting I think deeper game in the late stage is very possible.

The name of the game is survival, and let's figure that hacking instances are low to keep things rolling.

I recently saw a thread that showed some ideas as to what the thrist/hunger mechanic and nighttime might look like.  I thought the doctored nighttime shot was interesting.  However there were lit street lamps. That got me thinking.  What if you could get the power plant outside Electro going again?  It might light up the city, helping out Bambis, or draw zombies in/away from something.  Or you could run power lines to your base, set traps, etc...

True many of the ideas can be a blessing or a curse depending on your perspective but I think it all depends on how you'd like to play it.

I imagine it like repairing a vehicle.  A team effort.  Whether it's taken further to say, it must be manned for it to operate may be a bit much.  Unless you think of it as starting an attack/defend event.  You know bandits will come for you as soon as the lights are on!

I like the idea of giving players the opportunity to work together on large scale.  Plus you'll always have the bandit players to oppose any work done.

There is also the idea that achieving an object may result in a certain type of random event occuring or being more frequent.  Say gasing up a generator an airfield to power a beacon, etc...  Investigating aircraft may crash.  Or NPC Cleansing squads may roll through shooting everything that moves (I myself am on the fence as to the thought of NPCs being in the game).

There should also be things for Lone Wolf players to do as well.

What do you guys think?  Let's hear your ideas.

I think we should focus on the bugs and crazy stuff going on in the game right now and flush out the end game as this one gets more polished.  I realize we all want that perfect game.. and I think this game could set itself apart... but right now its still a little bit newish and needs some meat and potato's before it gets the dessert.

True but it can't hurt to imagine.

You're right.. and the great thing is that the person creating the game is very likely to read your idea's and if one is truly great... he might use it.  The only thing is right now people are focusing on other things right now... not that I want to be a debbie downer... but any great end game idea you have would probably not see the light of day until much much much later...

I think that we need a bigger map if we want to expand the gameplay of dayz. Playing as a lone wolf I personally want to build a cabin in the woods and hunt animals to survive...maybe take a trip to the city once in a while for other needs. I dont see this working on the small map we have now.

That's an interesting idea.  Something that falls outside of the PvP realm live off the land.

Someone happens by your cabin.  You fix 'em and send them on their way, maybe do some trading too.

Or you could just set up traps to deter everyone.

I hope that expansions can be added to the map, or whole new maps to travel too.  I'm not sure I like the drastically different maps people added to the mod but a change of pace was nice.

It would be interesting to say travel down a road that lead off the map to some dogleg for you to explore.  Something that can change.  Like it has lead to a new wilderness area, but this week is an office park.

Would be cool if walking west tooks you to "Wesern Chernarus", and same for all sides of the map. these would go to the border of the country and would be smaller than the main map. although you couldn't spawn in northern chernarus for logicall reasons, it would be mainly wilderness for building.

building. its what made epoch so popular. however, i don't want an epoch-level building system. more like:

35935402.jpg this photo is from Chernobyl, but you can see what i mean. small cabin, grass roof. that would be HIGHEST level

lower levels would be kinda like this, though not exact:

medium would be this:

9458514_orig.jpg

you could also build misc fences, guard towers and base improvments.

Next up: cars. much harder to repair and keep running.

guns. more customization = more players wanting to create the gun of their dreams, or "pimp out" their m4

Loot is the biggest priority for end game I think. Having only 3 different guns in the game is pretty lame. A trader city would be awesome too like in Day z Epoch where you can buy/sell/trade without getting owned. Vehicles  are a must have with this giant map. Safes are super important too because not being able to hoard gear up makes the game extremely boring personally. Following all that I would implement base building. Lastly, I would add AI missions that feel rewarding for the amount of risk you are putting yourself in by attempting them.

P.S. Taking out server swapping where you spawn in the same spot with the same gear is also a huge problem because it ruins immersion completely. Currently you can gear on a underpopulated server and then swap to a populated one and own the kids that are trying to play the game legit. Im sad they even released this game for alpha because its a train wreck at the moment.

So what your saying is you want a worse version of Epochs building and would rather have shacks at endgame? In epoch you could make a locked garage, helipad, locked doors and have fun in the process. (especially if you manage to get a chainsaw) I play with a few friends and making a well sized base was one of the best things to do other than the PvP and AI missions. It gave you something fun to do when you want downtime from combat.

Just an FYI, your probably going to get some hate. Epoch isn't exactly well liked around here...

But AI Missions? Traders? Safezones? Thats for kiddies. Thats nkt "Survival." Thats not dayz.

And safes are the stupidest thing that they could add. Try lugging a 300-pound gunsafe you could fit into into the woods in your backpack. Anyway, you should be able to open them with a mosin... or even a wrench.

Yeah it's definitely easy to throw out ideas that can drasically change what the game is.  Of course we're not Rocket with the original vision.  I mean who would have thought the new illness system would have been interesting enough for a game, but he's in the position to realize it.

We all play the game and we've all be like "oh wouldn't it be cool if..."  So keep those coming.  I must admit I'm completely unaware of these other mods doing things similar.  So if I say something that falls into that, just let me know.  This is just meant for a fun convo while I'm not in game.  I'm enjoying the game and want to talk to others who are as well.

Hoarding is an extention of the survival mechanic I feel.  I mean bums have boxes and shopping carts for their stuff :)  I'm not sure if the base building mechanic is still in the games future but I remember Rocket talking about being able to occupy apartments in the new buildings around cherno.  Very interesting but I wonder how it could work.  Like would other people be able to walk in and go through the stuff (like finding a tent) or does a door shut and lock everyone out?  Would players be able to break in if it did so?

Maybe you could occupy structures out in the wilderness instead of building them?  I never used the tents in the mod.  What did you guys think if it?  What if there was a stash system like Stalker?  Something that can be hidden better than a tent.

The fact remains we're going to need a place to keep our LOOTS.

About building structures.  I'm on the fence of that I think.  Like it was mentioned above it's been done in another mod.  But what if we can build defenses?  Reinforce an exsisting structure through levels.  Say first level would be boarding up windows.  Next one would be a wall, and another would be traps.  That could give a lot of seemingly useless loot a purpose later on to do so.

Of course loot would have to kept from spawning in captured buildings as to not take advantage.

Has anything been mentioned about traps?  It would be interesting to say rig a dead body with an explosive :D That would be a surprise.

Or say you pull the pin on a grenade when you're surrounded by bandits?  That would level the playing field if they want your stuff.  Taking you out would destroy your loot in the very least.  You might even be able to take some of them with you.  That would be one hell of a story getting out of a situation like that!
