is it just me or are crowbars/axes incredibly weak?

Recommended Posts

I had been running from a single zombie for about 15 minutes then happen upon a crowbar, I pick it up and it took 9 swings for the thing to go down, and with its dying swing it knocked me out and i bled to death. So what I am wondering is are they meant to be this weak or am I doing something wrong?

I reloaded mine, But seriously I could cave a head in with one or two swings with a crowbar but this is ridiculous. You will lose half your blood before killing the zombie with a melee weapon.

I played with the melee weapons extensively. Crowbars seem to kill a zombie in three strikes, hatchets in one strike. They have very short ranges, so a lot of the time you could miss by not actually being close enough.

You can also attack through walls with them. I reported it already as a bug, but you could run into a building or around a fence, and if you stay near the wall, they will try to attack through it, which doesn't seem to happen anymore, but you can still hit them.

I especially love having a reload animation for the hatchet.

That's not saying it's good, it 's just that you found a bugged one...

Anyway, axes have always confused me as I could never get mine to equip. Crowbars are useless as well, taking 3-4 hits to kill 1 zed. Ridiculous.

On my current chr, i got an axe and think its great. Kills in one shot, mostly. I have 27 zombie kills with it so far and no broken bones or too much loss of blood. One thing though havnt used the hatchet in the new 1.7.1.5 when they resized it so maybe its diff now?

As of .5 it can now be stored in your tool belt rather than standard inventory. This allows you to stick your primary gun in your bag, if you have enough space, and go hatchet mode, then when you're done, return it to the belt and get your gun back out.

Hatchet is great, but it's not too helpful if you're surrounded. It's a great way to eliminate aggro waiting outside a building for you trying to creep in a single door way.

Well, im not saying the hatchet is the best thing going lol but when all you find is a hatchet and all of a sudden you can strike back and do a decent job of it it feels fricken great and most of the kills i got with the hatchet was when i was in a barn in a corner hiding from a horde of zombies and they kinda found me. One thing i noticed, the zombies dont attack when your looking through a scavenge pile on the gound, gives me time to catch my breath and think lol.

Was looking for a thread about this as i wanted to discuss the status of the Crowbar... It's simply to weak! A crowbar is one of the best weapons in a zombie apocalypse, easy to get your hands on and can also kill a zombie with one hit, that is, if we are talking George Romero zombies also know as the "Classic" zombies... It might be heavy, but with a good hit you should be able to penetrate their skull thus killing them. And at the moment they are able to kill a zombie with several hit's, as you've mentioned, it is also treated as a Blunt weapon, which i think is wrong. It got sharp edges, and as i clearly stated before it can crack open a skull in one hit if you are strong enough... And if you hit a zombie in the leg with it, the leg would take some heavy damage, just as the hatchet. The crowbar is NOT weaker than a Hatchet and should not be treated as so!

I wish there were katanas in the game, that would be my choice in real world zombie apocalypse. In dayZ it would be cool if crowbars sometimes hit critical hits = cracked the zombie skull. Would be more realistic and not that hard to implement?

Katana's would be awesome, but should also be very rare if it would be implemented. But if they were to add Katana's they would also need to implement something to make the different melee weapons differ in weight, since the only real difference in a katana and an axe/crowbar is the weight.

Also critical hit's would be awesome, but even so they would need to buff it...

It's just you' date=' usually when I'm using the hatchet it normally 1-2 shots a zombie no problem.

I've had no problems with it so far, it's just you.

Well... if you would have actually read it, you would know that i was talking about the crowbar...

Crowbars are useless, I find hatchets much more effective.

Katana doesn't make any sense I'm sorry this isn't L4D2. At least the hatchet and Crowbar are logical in an industrial/farming area. Shovels would make sense as a melee weapon as well.

After i find an axe I no longer have to respect the zombies. Just run to the nearest building and chop them down one by one. Super easy and super silent.

I'd personally rather see the axe nerfed a bit tbh.
