Current Cycle of the game. (Start coast-> go north-> back to coast)

Recommended Posts

First off I want to say that I am thoroughly enjoying the Alpha. Yes, its had its bugs and some of them have been quite frustrating but overall i'm fairly happy with what is there (though there should be more considering 1 1/2 yrs of development.)

However, I'm really hoping more types of loot is released into the game (clothing, weaponry, etc) is high value loot spawns.

With weapons for example you have a pistol, and M4, and a rifle. Once you get a primary weapon (and possibly a secondary) and you have enough food to survive there is zero reason to be in the north of the map.

This is me just making up numbers but I would say 80% of player interaction takes place near coastal cities, which is all fine and dandy except for the fact that it means there is no incentive to leave the coast. Once you're geared up (which you can get from coastal cities anyway) your goal(s) depending on how you want to play are to keep your food / drink stocks up, farm players for blood, continually loot medical supplies so you can blood farm, and help other players if you're the hero type.

Because of the limited types of loot, lack of vehicles, lack of tents to set up camp and lack of variety that currently exists in the alpha, you can literally spend all your time on the coast and not miss out on anything in the game. I'm all for player interaction, but it needs to be spread across the map and balanced.

The sooner patches come out that increase variety of loot ( with higher chances in the northern parts of the map) the sooner we will see players venture off to explore the map.

My group and I have literally gone through a cycle of getting essentials, heading north, getting gear, then back south to blood farm to survive and interact, and its disappointing that there isnt more that calls you to the north yet.

Now dont get me wrong, like I said im enjoying the alpha quite a bit, but I'm just hoping they plan on increasing loot variety in the near future.

Just my thoughts, thanks for reading.

There are tons of roads up north and places that look like there will be large towns if not cites. http://dayzdb.com/map#6.063.075  look at the top of the map, just be patient and we will get more attractions up north. There is a few football or something field up there which are usually by major cities to.

Doesn't matter if the sun is up north. People stay on the coast because thats where the shits at.

I have a map and I can see that the north has  a lot of potential. There just isnt any incentive yet and i'm hoping it comes soon.

It's all up to you. You are not forced for PvP or military loot. You can play without goal of searching "big gun". It's everyday game as well, just survive and wait for expansions. :beans:

Thats a fair point, however variety is still makes doing whatever you choose to do more engaging.

stop sitting on the coast killing fresh spawns you make your own fun in this game. I hate spawn killers so much and it sounds like you 'and your crew' and farming blood as you call it, killing noobs on the coast ruining the game for everyone else. Thanks.

Yeah I imagine so, I 've only managed to play a couple of hours because every server in UK and EU is rammed full at 40/40 the whole list when I finish work (5pm GMT)

My experiences with other humans where they were hostile and killed me :)

This always happens on any popular game. it comes out,. they know exactly how many copies were sold, but still it seems there is only servers available for about 10% of the paying customers. Surely for every 40 copies sold, they should buy another server in that region. But no, we are left with servers with no space except for people who don't go work and can sit there all day trying to connect. thanks.

Who said anything about killing them? We just take blood and let them go. No need to get hostile when you don't know the facts and make assumptions.

Every single one of my most fun and greatest battles in the dayz mod have been up north. You guys should try it :)

Much more rewarding than killing bambis on the coast.

That's why I would put spawns in all edges of the map and not just the coast.

I think the way it is in the mod is how it should be. Having the best loot far away from spawns so you have incentive to make the long trip there and get a sense of accomplishment if you happen to come across some awesome loot.

This is also why I think the new barracks in Balota and elsewhere isn't a good idea.. people have no reason to leave the coast.
