"quality" of food?

So how does the status affect things like food and backpacks and gear? like if I have a ruined can of beans, what does that even mean?

It effects your gear, but at this time, it does not affect food.

 

It only matters if it's rotten or not.

Nothing, for now; the only descriptor you need to worry about is "Rotten" at the moment. Stay away from rotten.

I created a thread about this yesterday and a guy answered me differently.

I asked: "Is it better to eat a prefine rotten apple, or a damaged (but not rotten) apple?"
And he said a prefine rotten apple is better, because the more damage more is the chance of getting infected. Actually it doesn't make any sense, so that's why I am getting infected I guess.

 

So, please, does anyone know the truth about this?

I just eat whatever I have, I've eaten rotten food several times and don't even bother checking the status on food thats not rotten. I haven't gotten infected a single time, however I've died several times of dehydration as I never seem to find any drinks...

I've gotten sick several times from who knows what. I was so desperate to live more than an hour that I drank and ate anything I could find. Tried to add a cooking pot to a Coleman stove then tried to add in some brown shoes I found. Didn't work but I would have eaten it if it did.

if you scout areas on low pop servers you can find decent food easily...i do...i never eat rotten stuff again lol...think it couldnt do any harm got sick and passed out...

 

 

i remember on the steam forums some guys was getting sooo mad for dying from rotting food hahah them trolls...steam forum....yeah...
