GanjaPalooza 35 Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) I will make this brief and clear (hopefully) so we can maybe figure out if we are experiencing issues with the game, OR if we might be onto something and uncovering a mechanic of the game maybe not known before. I spent a solid 6-8 hours in game last night with a teammate. We are experienced DayZ Mod players and enjoyed learning the new mechanics of things and trying to decipher what were bugs or part of the game :). We had a rough start with about 2-4 deaths a piece in the first few hours, but the larger portion of our night consisted of us gathering and gearing up our longish-living survivors along with learning about new content! Here's my reason for posting this thread: Towards that end of the night we noticed our hunger was depleting to "Starving Status" in the red VERY quickly, almost within a few minutes. Now, we were moving around a lot - moving inland at this point to explore the new features added to the landscape (which is looking great!!) - BUT we were getting hungry at an almost silly rate. We left the coast with what we thought, based from timing and getting used to what foods did what and for how long, would be enough for a long trek inland - we were very wrong. I am wondering, if you play longer with no break does your survivor use more of the food and water you consume? Basically, does your player get 'tired' and start breaking down because of the 'long day' he just had? I am curious if anyone else has experienced a sudden increase in the amount of food consumed after extended periods of play? We were very smart about our movement and rarely sprinted.... I am also wondering if maybe the standalone is a lot more harsh on your players when ascending all the hills and mountains in the area?... We never tried to just stick to the flat road to see if that changed anything. We were both in good health and were eating a variety of food and stayed hydrated to the max. We decided to log off in the woods after heading back towards the coast to see if when we relog the times seem to get back to normal and I will post updates. Let me know if you have had any similar experiences or might know anything about this! Happy Surviving! :beans: Edited December 18, 2013 by GanjaPalooza

Wo3dy 111 Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) there was a post of it somewhere. when message of thirst is quenched comes up your thirst is at like 30%. just keep drinking and eating till it says (stomach/stumach/stomuch?) feels really full orsomthing. SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted December 18, 2013 The thing is that you actually spawn under nourished and dehydrated. at about 30% hunger or nourishment, you start getting messages like "I'm hungry" or "I'm thirsty." This means that if you are getting thirsty often, it means your overall hydration level is just hovering about 30%. Basically, you take a drink - got to 35%, messages go away. Five minutes later, 30% rolls around, and bang, "I'm thirsty." If you wait too long, this level drops even further. Meaning a small break between meals is going to result in you being undernourished. You need to eat and drink until it says "I feel full" in green. Then you'll have an hour or two before you start to receive those messages. Also mind that moving around literally burns calories. So the more you are moving, the more you need to eat and drink.
iAwesome 128 Posted December 18, 2013 yea my charcter is like a drunk hes always thirsty.... rarely hungry just ALWAYS wants a drinkI don't get why people are complaining about being hungry/thirsty. I just eat till I get the message similar to "Your stomach is full" and then I don't get any notifications at all for while later. If I spawn near Komarovo, I just run to the "well" and drink from it till I'm full.

People just don't seem to understand this. The new system is awesome when you figure out how it works.
GanjaPalooza 35 Posted December 18, 2013 Thanks for all input. When we stop to drink at water outlets/fill our water, I drink over 15 times before I go away. We never had an issue with thirst, ever. We understand that the levels are working far differently than they did in the mod as mentioned in OP, this was a substantial rate compared to anything before in the Standalone. We would take breaks, rest, and I would never just have "one serving" of my food - I would eat, at least, a combination of two servings from a can or one and some fruit. Here's the thing, we had been going for 2-4 hours fine with the food we were eating and water we were filling up on, making sure we were completely 'satisfied' before continuing. It wasn't until late into the night did our techniques stop working, even an increase in consumption seemed to have no change, this wasn't "z0mgz imz hunger" - instead it was an exponential increase that seemed excessive even when we considered the new food/water mechanics and our movement. By no means am I complaining here, just curious if this might have been implemented on purpose... a kind of "go back to camp and chill out" kind of deal. Or maybe there is a bug? Or maybe it's just how it is - regardless, this wasn't the "my first time trying the standalone I don't understand why no work".

Or maybe you got sick somehow and that did it, although those are some pretty odd symptoms for an illness.
sobieski12 835 Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) yea my charcter is like a drunk hes always thirsty.... rarely hungry just ALWAYS wants a drink Don't think the food / water system works just like the mod.* When your character is thirsty he needs to drink about three times. Don't just drink a single soda and think your water need has fully replenished. * Find water bottles and canteens and find water pumps on the map, this will help you control the need for water. GanjaPalooza 35 Posted December 18, 2013 Sounds like a bug to me. Or maybe you got sick somehow and that did it, although those are some pretty odd symptoms for an illness. That's I was thinking, a possible bug/glitch - the only off part about it was that both him and I were having the same problem so maybe we did something together that messed stuff up. Although who knows, I might not be used to the fact of eating so much when on the large-scale move. With that "new version" they came out with, I guess the experimental servers, "Sickness" will pop up with the water and food meters in your inventory screen above you character and neither of us had been sick the whole time or received messages that were out of the ordinary "My stomach made a noise".
