New player finding no loot or zombies or anything an hour in

Recommended Posts

Been looking in every building and no weapons or loot anywhere, got myself lost out in the woods looking for a town with more loot and no matter what server I log on i'm still out there unable to work out what to do.

So basically all i've done in an hour is punch a few people near spawn point in the face since they were afk and run around and get lost in a boring empty world. On the mod I at least got a weapon at spawn iirc and killed a zombie even if I did have a zombie spawn and eat my ass while I spent like 5 mins working out how to loot with the clunky loot system at which point I left it till it hopefully got improved.

I mean I can't even look at a map to see where I could maybe go to find stuff :( just gotta wander aimlessly for hours on end around an empty world where even though theres almost 40 people on server which is the maximum I can find noone but these people who have an odd blood gushing around their heads afk at spawn.

It seems zombies and loot only respawn on server restart....so if the server has been up for a while then people might have just killed the zombies and taken the loot. It is planned to get it all respawning though ;)

I hope it stays this way,

loot is harder to find now makes it more rewarding wen you get it. In the mod go in cherno and in 10 minutes you have enough food and drinks to last you forever. And just hit up the firestation and you got some good weapons. It took me the entire trip to berizino before I was stable with my food, and it helped that I found a dead guy on the tracks with some food to help me along the way.

I want to fear starvation

I want to fear dehydration.

For the first time in forever. It's actually a factor in survival.

And you want to take that away?

Try playing on a low pop server to get use to SA.  Loot only respawns at restart now.  So if players take all the loot out of a building, the loot isn't repsawning until the server restarts.  So playing on a low pop server can help you with that aspect.

You also have to remember that loot is just rare as it is.  It isn't suppose to be everywhere like it was in the mod.

I also saw on the stream that global chat is on. On every server I visit I have only direct chat :/

The global chat was just turned on for testing for practical reasons I believe.

Yes its released in Alpha form as "early access", but realistically right now it's a stress test with a lot of features.  Read up.

So thing is no matter what server I log into i'm still lost out in the wild, how do I find/get to a town even if I do go on a low pop server? I can't even die to respawn since I can't find an enemy to kill me. You'd think your progress would be per server and not whole account.

Just try following roads or powerlines or something.  You'll find a town eventually,

Following a road for 20 mins or so and saw nothing which is why I went off-road and now can't even find a road.

Sun rises in the west and sets in the east.  Try using that to navigate?

So i have been playing The SA for around 3 hours now, straight.

Played on 4 different servers and am yet to see a zombie.

I thought this game was meant to be about a zombie apocalypse, or did Rocket just forget?

It doesn't seem right. I know it's only an alpha, but it's another bug to add to the list.

In game its bright and sunny yet theres no clock to see what time it is in game and it was 3am in real life and is almost 5am now so it obviously doesn't match the location of the server since the servers I was on are Australian like me. So suns location doesn't really help as far as I can tell. Also without knowing where I spawned I have no point of reference to build off even if I know which way north is.

They are pretty much just getting an overall performance feel. Later we should hopefully see more

And now I can see why haha with the amount of servers up and players on and the fact it downloaded fast I didn't think game was only on early access for a day lol and tbh I didn't look at its news to see that.

I feel special :) I got a staff reply :D

Ok so 3 hours in I finally found another town by following a road at night and got a hoodie that adds carry room, an axe kinda like firefighters use and a few cans of beans I think they were along with rope but i'm still yet to see 1 zombie or player. Game hasn't got enough enemies if any and the map is way to big if 40 (which oddly is the maximum) people can be on a server for hours on end and noone ever sees another player.

weird...

I've had mostly the opposite experience.

Lots of player interaction so far.. some good, most were violent.  Found a fair bit of Zs as well, but not overwhelming at all.

As for loot.. I think it's pretty well balanced (aside from the respawn issue).

As someone mentioned.. its part of the experience.. I should stress over food as water as much as I should worry about a bandit or a Z.  Its a survival game, there should be some risk/reward element to trying to survive.

What part of alpha are you people missing here? This game is subject to change for the better. If you don't know the game follow a road till you find a town or follow the power lines that will also take you to a town.

Amen, brother. Amen.

I've been playing games my whole life (I'm getting old). I'm getting less and less interested in them. Not because I don't like gaming anymore, I do. From time to time I find a gem of a game that can still keep my playing a whole weekend.

What gets me bored is the hand-holding. The lowest-common denominator. The constant rewards. The shiny, hollow worlds. The too-precious-to-fail mentality. The utter lack of challenges, except for muscle memory (which can be fun in itself, i.e. shooters).

This game is brutal, no hostage nonsense. It punches you to the floor and kicks you when you're down, and then taunts you to get back up. Never before have I've been more fulfilled or felt a greater sense of accomplishment in a game then when I succesfully manages to overcome whatever this game throws at me.

Because it is not scripted. Because it is hard. Because it relies on my own judgement. A judgement that rarely gets exercised in a game.

Say what you will about rocket, but at least he has (so far) shown an incredible integrity to stick with his vision, and you can tell by this rugged gem of a game, and I hope he won't yield to the pressure to dumb-down, remove obstacles or cater to the masses.
