How accurate are the stats in the leader board?

Good evening,

Just curious as to how accurate / how often the leaderboards are updated?

I was looking to try and find my character and get an idea of how long I've been alive for. I had just finished a play session of about 4 hours with some friends (very intense!). Managed to find myself by kills only I then noticed that the recorded play time there is only 2 hours 30 minutes or so. I have played for several days now on this character and when I log in it even says "day 2" in the text that appears at the beginning.

Is this normal? Does it not accurately record play time or does it take a while to update on the website? Just wondering if it's intended behaviour or a bug that's all!
