SA: Increased difficulty of looting

Recommended Posts

So, getting right to the point, in dayz as it is,looting is far too easy. As it stands, you run into the building you plan to loot, grab the stuff you find, and gtfo. There is no issue unless you run into a player. Looting is not difficult after you learn the basics of the game, but I don't think it should be that way. Looting needs to be a more complex process, and there are a few ways i could see this happening.

For one, doors could be locked or jammed from past residents of the building; in hopes to keep the infected out. A player might need to bash the door in with their foot,(able to cause minor injury), pick the lock if they happen to find the right tools,(this would have to be extremely difficult), pry the door with a crowbar, find a alternative entrance(ex. a window), etc to get inside a building or room. Of course, some doors would remain unlocked or already bashed in by previous players, but having some areas that are not so easily accessible would improve the difficulty and challenge of actually getting the tools you need to survive.

I also understand that zeds will be able to run inside buildings in standalone, so some might say that is enough to make looting challenging, but i don't think it is. It is not too challenging to stealthily enter a building if you know what you're doing. Also, you could just lose line of sight by going in another room of the building you are in, but with locked doors you might find yourself trapped and cornered by more than one zombie, forcing you to use weapon ammunition and/or putting you at risk for getting swiped at in melee combat. This would make it so zeds actually have a chance to kill you, not just players. Deadly zombies would encourage players to team up more to protect themselves. Especially if ammo is found less.

To ensure that players just don't steer clear of doors that are locked every time, most doors need to have a chance of being locked, barricaded, or jammed. The game would then decide what doors would be locked and what doors would be left open by chance. I think the game would be much more fun if zombies were actually a challenge, not just players, and the ability to be trapped by zombies would make them have a chance to kill you

Tell me what you think below on my idea!

I like it a lot!

I would also love it if we could barricade / lock doors behind us if we are chased by Zombies.

Then you could create a temporary safe heaven.

Yes, you find a locked door and you can be quite sure that there's a zombie on the other side and an unlooted room.

Axe and other melee weapons should be able to break doors down.

Shotguns should be the most effective for shooting out the lock.

Screwdriver & bobby pin like fallout 3?

Shotgun is fast but loud, picking is medium speed and silent, axe is medium noise and medium speed.

lock picking minigame?

Rare safe item spawning, has either a key dropped by a zed in the general area/ a combination which can be guessed, but there will be a note somewhere to hint at it (important date in diary) birthdate.

Pick up something to do with owner, which should test your general knowledge at guessing the relevant numbers.

Eg. Back to the future 1.21 GW... 88 mph... Things of that sort.

Can't take note/ diary.

Safe would often contain some money (now junk) a pistol and ammo, some leads to further loot, Easter eggs, other useful things.

You could take the safe to you're base and change the code/ keep the key.

Maybe you could eat the key? Implement with poop mechanics, counter person eating key by feeding him curry.

The safe however would have an appropriate size being 5 or so loot spots and enough room for a pistol.

A locked room with a zombie inside it should be a funny sight.

Bloodstained walls and greasy broken windows that the zombie might've cut himself on.

Immune person with him that got eaten in a pile of blood & bones in the corner.

Should be a kinda rare & fun thing to find though.

More ideas from me soon.

Why does this not have more supporters?

I would only add that zombies should be attracted if you open a lock by force.

Lockpicking should work with a chance of success. If you fail to lockpick it, you have to open the lock by force to get in.

Also the preowner could have set up traps.

Improvised alarms would be fun.

Trip a wire and an airhorn goes off calling every zombie in a 250m raius.
