GPU Spike issue, low FPS. I5 @ 4.6Ghz, GTX 780. Unplayable

Recommended Posts

Hey. Im going crazy here, i have tried everything i possible could ever think of and my head is about to explode, really.

I have tried re-install Arma2 3 times now and different mods tried and vanilla dayz - same issue with all of them. I have tried alot of different servers on every mod :/

It does not matter if i have setting on lowest possible or everything on Ultra, same issue.

Using MSI Afterburner and the GPU usage in-game is spiking up and down ALL the time - its fine out in forests but when i come close to houses/cities - its start spiking up and down from 1% to 50% - Every second - This is causing the lag, its not playable at all, can barely move more or less.

I have tried launch options that people recommend.

System specs:

Intel i5 4670k @ 4.6 Ghz.

Asus VI Maximus Gene.

8 GB DDR3 @ 2133 Mhz.

EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX 3GB.

2x Samsung 120GB SSD.

BenQ 24" 144Hz monitor.

Corsair H100i CPU-cooler.

Windows 8.1.

No heat problem - CPU at 100% is not going above 60 degrees, even in stress-tests and it is a 100% stable overclock.

Been building computers for the last 12 years and im well aware of what im doing, have really tried everything i could think of.

Reinstalled every driver, tried different Nvidia drivers, old ones, new ones and beta. Same issue.

Anyone with a similiar issue? Any tips? Tried every search i could imagine and found nothing similar to this.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Have you let nvidia experience optimize the video settings for arma2? .. I know alot of ppl cuss these programs but its worth a shot, managed to make mine look and run better.  Otherwise not sure what you problem could be that hardware should be killin it.

please do, I have been running test, some clan mates are getting 50 fps. I have been tweaking the basic.cfg for over 2 weeks trying to get the right setting....so far, with 60 plus people on the server, I am getting no complaints.... but I need more people to test

please, if you havent gone , try the server and PLEASE report what u have.

someone with your rig got 70 fps or so they told me

Here, stop bitching, realize 15 fps is normal for some people. Unlike me haha.

Thats "i5" in the title not "15"... but regardless that rig should be caking it.

I think I've heard that ARMA doesn't like Win8.1 or SSD's or some combination of Win8.1 and ARMA installed on an SSD...  You could try parking all but 2 cores on the CPU as well, but I can't imagine that that's an issue.

I'm kind of at a loss...

Send a PM to AmberHelios through these forums, He's a developer and will probably be your best bet for a solution.

try verifying your game cache via steam, it can kinda of help. What i can quess is:  try to reinstall direct X and microsoft .net 4.5.1; try disabling windows areo and trying window mode;

also try going to your start menu, type "msconfig" and go to the startup tab. Remove anything you do not need DIRECTLY on startup; you can always start them when you are in the OS. This can remove background processes and remove anything stressing your CPU

15 FPS even on low with that system? It's almost the same as mine and I get nearly 200 FPS on low.

@OP - try setting all graphics settings to their max value, object detail to normal and post-process effects to disabled.

Also set...

GPUMaxFramesAhead=1

GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1

In your ArmA2.cfg and ArmA2OA.cfg.

Hey!! Thanks for the replys everyone. Im going to try out everything that i havent already, but i have tried both Arma2 and Arma 3 and they works PERFECT in SINGLE-Player, no issues, no lag at all.

So the issue im having is something over Multiplayer, same on both Arma2 / 3. Anyone heard about that before?

Klad's solution seems pretty plausible, I would give that a shot.

Also, this reddit post describes something similar that seems to be related to windows 8.1

http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1rn9gm/windows_81_causes_dayz_lag/

Yeah, i can confirm that it worked, NOD32 - Disable HIPS was the issue causing it. For the 10-20 minutes i tried, running around in Cherno in Arma 2 and 10 min on Arma 3, no lag at all. So hopefully its gone forever and im happy i found the solution, hopefully this thread can help other people aswell. Going to play later tonight and ill report back if its completely gone or not :)
