Private Hives are the way forward?

Recommended Posts

Private hives are trash. They promote nothing but mismanagement, abuse by admins that's ego and sense of self-entitlement is overly inflated because they "own" the server, and they're a massive pain in the ass because 1 asshole admin can go "Welp, *hive wipe*" I've never had fun dealing with pHive administration, I never foresee it ever being a pleasant experience. It should be left to publicly-appointed members of the community (if not official staff) on official DayZ servers, where you can play any server any time with a consistent character.

pHives suck.

I completely disagree with the OP, which is funny if you think about it, because i have the exact same argument, but in favor of public hives. Private hive is like playing on your own field, you're the one who decide when everyone has to leave.

...giving people beans is the typical manner of acknowledging a shared opinion, Kyrah. :)

And yeah. "Oh I found a *insert name of good weapon/vehicle/equipment*!"

BI/ADMIN: "Server restart in 5... 4..."

"NOOOOOOOOOOOO-" *everyone has disconnected*

...oh and there's a 9/10 chance you glitched into space right before the restart and you're fucked when you log back in.

First of all, the title is wrong. A hive is more than one servers sharing the same database. So private DayZ hives consist of multiple servers, not just one. Server hopping/ghosting/teleporting is still possible there. What OP is talking about are private servers.

I'm playing currently both on public hive and on one-two private servers and each has it's own advantages. But I have to point out something. For people that want to survive for days/weeks/months, private servers involve a big risk. Waking up one day to find out it's gone. Could be the admin got bored with DayZ, he ran out of money, he got a life. So you could be playing for months, gearing up only to lose it all because the server is no more. This risk is not present in public hive, whatever happens, no matter how many servers go down, you'll still have your character and all the gear you carry.

And another thing. Whenever an update is released, most private servers take their time to implement it. This can be translated to a few days, a few weeks, a month, etc. Some people may not care, but if one has a tight schedule like a job or university courses then even one lost evening/weekend counts.

Most of the problems you guys are saying are in the way the servers are managed. If all servers were private hive, but the server files had to pass a check before it could go live or something, could reduce the admin abuse. It could completely stop modding of servers and clean them up. Or even just tag each public hive server and toon so it only works on that server.

I know what its like for a private hive to go down. But when you have played, and survived, for weeks then its not so much the gear on you. Its the camp that you have put together. The camp could just as easily get discovered by a bandit group and be trashed.

(the .01% is the spawn loadout, like i said its only a map and a food and water.)

The map brings it down to bout 85% Vanilla lol.

I think, there should be a few small private hives run by trusted members of the community that Rocket himself could mark as trusted.

This would keep the preferred variation of difficulty and community we see now while not having a bunch of servers run by the dicks that are really ruining the private hives.

Do i have to explain why checking a remote server's file is not going to happen or how it won't change the admin abuse situation?
