deathman16 1 Posted November 8, 2013 Hey guys, I'm an old vet of dayz, played it too long haha. I recently upgraded my gpu from an old 550 ti to a 650 ti boost scBut haven't noticed an fps change really, infact, my fps seems lower, it's think that has somethingt o do with moving my dayz from an internal hdd to an external usb 3.0 hdd.But I usualy either get a solid 30, or I drop to 10 ish.Is this something wrong with my rig, or just the game.Amd phenom ii x4 3.0 ghzGtx 650 ti boost sc4 gb ram1tb external hdd usb 3.
Owain1122 218 Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) I believe that Arma is Pretty CPU dependent! That's a CPU with a little age to it now, it would gave been a better bet to upgrade the CPU. Plus you would have been better off saving a bit more for the GTX660 or 660Ti.However the game isn't fully optmised either. deathman16 1 Posted November 8, 2013 The 650 ti boost sc is actually marginally better then the 660, that's why so many people reccomend it.I understand my cpu is a little old and I feel that maybe what's keeping me back :), but can the external hdd also drop the fps? What are your settings on? To my understanding "High" and better uses the GPU more effectively than "Medium" and lower, which uses the CPU (albeit not very well). So if your settings are low, try turning them up? ...and why do you have the game on a USB? (that shouldn't impact FPS in any way; only load time when you launch ArmA)
deathman16 1 Posted November 8, 2013 I usualy run maxed out, apart from post processing and antialiasing.I running off a usb hdd because my internals all died, and am now running windows off a 60gb ssd, with not enough room to run dayz, the usb is usb 3.0 meaning a 6 gobs transfer rate, similair to that ofa sata 3 port. PK Richie 507 Posted November 8, 2013 Install Geforce experience and let it pick the settings, it's a fantastic little program :)
deathman16 1 Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) I think I solved it, fiddled with some settings. 40-70 fps. Edited November 8, 2013 by dreadbeard1
