Brand new computer, and i get the same frames as my old computer

Recommended Posts

I have brought myself a brand new computer and i find myself receiving the same frame rate as i did with my old computer

[OLD PC SPECS]

Intel core 2 quad q6600 2.4ghz

8gbs some random ass 800mhz memory

xfx R7850

800W Antec PSU

Gigabyte GA-G43

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

[New Specs]

Intel core i7 4770K @ 3.5Ghz (STock)

8GB 1333hz patriot memory

XfX R7850

Corsair enthusiast TX650W PSU

MSI-B85-G43

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

With both of these computers i played Dayz, the old pc gives me about 15 to 30 frames

The new pc gives me about 20 to 30 frames, and sometimes 10 frames in towns and whilst driving.

i have no idea what to do to fix it, and i would love some help!

dayZ aint optimized at all so everyone gets bad frames. it's nothing to do with your system. i'm sure you can run most other games fine with that rig. although which one is the gfx card? i don't recognize any of those specs as gfx cards

Server and server polulation plays a big role too. I'm playing on a c2d E8500 @ 3.16ghz with a 2gb version 6950 (sapphire reference with unlocked shaders), and 4gb ddr2 ram (3.6, since I use winxp)  and on empty servers I get 60 fps easily (vsync enabled). As more people join the server my fps drop. With more than 20-30 people my framerare falls to 20-30, also lag/desync, unplayable to me. I'm playing on high settings all extras disabled (shadows, AA, PPE, HDR, etc).

Could be the server, could be your settings, could be anything really. You just have to find the sweet spot for your settings, so more load is put on the cpu than the gpu.

Nope. A friend of mine gets 60 straight. dips to 40 in citys i'd suppose. server pop 10 to 20. DayZ and arma are hardly optimized though :(

some people get lucky and their systems run it fine. but for the majority it's a clunky mess of frames

Dont think you are excused cause of your rig, do ALL the steps to optimize like others would

Also, are you running on normal/high/low setting?

I am running it on the lowest of low settings and in full HD 1920 x 1080

RPM and L1 cache size of your HDD?

I'm guessing you re-used the HDD from your original rig...

ArmA streams textures from your HDD, so a slow one = unhappy ArmA

[Quick Update]

I re-installed Video card drivers, and i got like 5 more frames, BUT it did not fix the frame drop i played on Very High (preset with 100% 3D res) settings on DayZ i got 20 fps and sometimes 40, but with the frame drop it just drops to 10 every other second or so. and when it drops the frames, it slows down and makes it really difficult to aim. And on the lowest settings (Very low preset but with 100% 3D res) i get 15 frames and sometimes 25 but the frame drop still occurs...

[EDIT - added in more info]

I'm going to try my dads graphics card, its a GTX 650ti and it is a tiny bit worse, BUT its a NVidia graphics card and i thought it might work.

Have you tried playing on a low populated server?

Have you tweaked your .cfg files found in "My Documents"?

Have you lowered your graphics settings or put the video memory on default?

Quick updates and all, my mate told me to get MSI afterburner to check some things over and i found out that my cpu is peaking at 100 degrees when idle... could this be the problem? The CPU fan is at 2020 RPM, and when the CPU is hot it does not seem to increase. and i cant find anything that will let me easily increase my fan speed. BUT i did take out my heatsink and re-apply some thermal paste, and it all works honky dory now. thank you guys for all your help.

Hey!

Check out this comprehensive guide to up your performance in DayZ! It works really well!

http://zombies.nu/community/threads/1741/

And another thing. If you are using DayZ Commander. Make sure you tag the option in the options tab to 'Close DayZ commander after launching a game'. It will boost FPS by around 20. But will also take 3-5 seconds longer to tab back into the game if you tab out.

Also another tip. Put mouse smoother all the way Down. For more reactive mouse input.

Also if none of these things work. You should consider playing on the DayZero mod. It's the best mod performance-wise.

I play there with 40-50 FPS in cities and 70-90 FPS in the wilderness.
