Auto lobby-AFK'ers kicking

Recommended Posts

Every server is full. And i'm pretty sure there's, atleast, 10-20 % of players AFK in lobby in every single of them.

We need something to kick them out, it will free a ton of place.

To be honest, many aren't AFK.

Maybe one or two sometimes are but whenever I have been to lobby all are in game. Very rare when I see one or two others with orange name.

I don't think this is necessary. The problem will alleviate itself in time, with more servers popping up and after the current interest in the mod dies down to some extent. It won't always be this crowded.

Idle players shouldn't be hogging spots on any server, no matter how many servers there are.

This is an administrator's RCon. I'm going to be perfectly frank: If you don't have this, or know what RCon is, rethink hosting or administrating a server. At the very least, RCon allows you to administrate your server without having to "kick somebody to make room for an admin", something that shouldn't need to happen.

The player underlined in red is what a potential idler looks like. It clearly says he's in (Lobby) and his connection hasn't committed yet, so it'll show as -1 ping. As an admin, if I refresh the player list and see that he's there for more than five minutes, I'll try to interact with them. You need to use your head to discriminate between idlers and people who are trying to fully connect, ie: load into the game and all that while "Waiting for Server Response". Speaking to them is often effective. My general rule of thumb is that, unless it's NA or EU primetime, 15 minutes should be enough to get into game, response or no response. I'll also restart (or at least check on) hive & hiveauth for my players to make sure the problem isn't on the server's end.

Also, as you can see, 10-20% of my server (a 50-slot server, so 5-10 people) are not idling. Potentially, at the time this screenshot was taken, there was the risk of one idler. Do I get idlers? You better believe it. They're rare, and they get removed.

(Edit: For the record, the player used in the example in question was not an idler. Don't treat him as one due to being used for illustration purposes.)

I agree, but as Mojo pointed out, I'm pretty sure that any server worth being on will be sufficiently monitored by admins, so there will only be a neglectable amount of idlers. So again, I doubt that immediate action is required to deal with the problem. The problem will get sorted out on its own, without any developer-side actions.

I don't know, I feel like servers should be setup to function by themselves, not rely on admins to police them 24/7.

I don't even know if it's something the mod team can implement, but I've played more online games that kick idle players than I can name.
