Zombie life cycle in SA?

Recommended Posts

As of right now the way zombies spawn is very unrealistic and i hope they change it to work like this in the SA:

Zombies should only spawn on the edges of the map in massive hordes (im talking 50-60 a group) and wander towards areas with the highest population or noise level, this could potentially create some very interesting situations such as large clans holding off entire zombie waves and creating a window of opportunity for looters to raid cities unimpeded (of course, what really happens is a blood bath ensues)

Furthermore this makes it possible to clear out barns and small villages to settle down in, and as long as the area is quiet your base will remain zombie free.

Zombies should also starve and simply drop "dead" after some amount of time or wander off.

As I see it a zombie should be constantly drawn to different stimuli, even faint sounds off in the distance.

"Zombies should only spawn on the edges of the map"

How does this make any sense? If people live in cities, and said-people become infected, the hordes would form in the cities, not in the outskirts.

Also your idea is flawed because people would only start playing directly after every server-restart so they can loot cities and avoid the zombies at the edges of the map, then when they get sum loots, log off and wait for the next restart.

"Zombies should also starve and simply drop "dead" after some amount of time or wander off." For every zombie which dies, you're not taking into account the new zombies, which can't be controlled by a player if for example they become infected, but the zombie population is controlled with respawns to account for this and keep the game exciting.

It's already been confirmed that zombies won't respawn in cities etc. till the area is empty of players, what more d'you want? Zombie hordes which can hear 10km to come wondering in to a city where a few gunshots were fired?

Although maybe it would be cool to have a few dynamic hordes of zombies wandering around from city to city which are attracted by noise if they happen to be 1-2km from some gunshots...

"As I see it a zombie should be constantly drawn to different stimuli, even faint sounds off in the distance."

Afaik this is what tin cans, glass bottles and smoke grenades were for originally, but I'm not actually sure if the cans/bottles draw zombies away as I've never been successful with them, can anyone confirm?

I would like to see a combination of this idea and what is already happening. How cool would it be that when the server spawns zeds it does so normally but also spawns gigantic hordes along the coast? I don't know how bad FPS would drop in SA since everything but graphics would be server side, but how crazy and fun would it be if you were gathering loot in Berezino, you're not watching the horizon, and a few minutes later a huge horde of zombies comes shambling into town? Maybe even have one giant horde that roams around looking for people to eat. You think you're being slick by running from bush to bush from Cherno to Stary and run over a hill into a couple hundred undead? That would definitely increase the tension around the map!

I understand the criticism, what i had in mind was a dynamic and realistic way of zombies entering the world and not just popping out of thin air when nobody is looking. zombies migrating from off map came to mind.

The zeds won't pop out, they will all spawn in on restart, I understand you are out of the loop because you left for a while but get up to sniff before trying to change things tha have already been decided.

sorry for being bitchy.

Well the majority will spawn in on restart, but if an area has been cleared it'll remain cleared till the player/s in it leave the area, then new zombies will spawn in the city.

The way they are supposed to work right now, is if you enter an area and clear it of zombies the zombies will not come back until everyone leaves the area, or something of the sort.

meaning places can be made into safe havens for some amount of time.

Dean has been fuzzy on this but he has stated a few things that can lead to either

A: you can completely clear out a servers zombie population

B:You can thin it out to nearly nothing somehow.
