Massive FPS drops every few minutes

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

I have been playing DayZ for ½'a year or so now, and never encountered this problem before.

When I play (on every server i have played on so far), I get 30-50FPS depending on the mod, but lately I have had this problem; Every few minutes my FPS drops to 4-9 FPS, doesnt depend on being in a city or the woodlands, and no program in the background is eating off of my CPU.

Here is my spec:

Processor Intel® Core i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz, 2501 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 6,00 GB
Adapter Description Radeon HD 7470M
Adapter RAM 1,00 GB (1.073.741.824 bytes)

If any more specs are needed, please let me know (and I will need to know where to find this information...>.<)

Please, I cannot go to highrisk areas with this :((

Does the fps drop last for just a few seconds or does it stay that low?

Before my laptop broke it would drop down to a few fps every 10 seconds, for about 2 seconds, then jump back up to my regular fps.  Turns out my laptop was overheating and that was causing the fps to drop.

The FPS drops every 1-2 minutes, and lasts for about 10 seconds. From there on it goes back to the normal FPS for about 1-2 minutes, and then FPS drops again...  I observed the resource monitor (tabebd out whenever the FPS dropped, and I saw that CPU 1 and 3 was set to "Parked", so i followed a guide online to set my powerplan when in "high performance" mode to not park my cores. This did not help the problem however...

But dropping from 30 to 6 FPS is alot, and I dont believe this is caused by overheating... My laptop is not even 2 months old :X Is there a way to observe temperatures on a win7 system?

EDIT: I found a program called RealTemp 3.70 which tells me the temperature of my CPU.

What is a temperature acceptable to?

You could download Razer game booster. http://www.razerzone.com/gamebooster  It tells you what your computer's temperature is.

Since you are using a Laptop, I wouldn't be surprised if it is a overheating issue.  I couldn't even play DayZ without having a fan blowing on my laptop at all times.  Even with that fan, my graphics card ended up breaking because of the heat.

It doesn't really matter that your laptop is only two months old.  Laptops aren't designed to really run a game like Arma.

I am running razers gamebooster 3, and I see now that with the program running (realtemp 3.70) My CPU was at 96 degrees celcius at max O.o Shouldnt it be 70 max?

Yikes, that is waaaaay to hot.  I'm pretty sure that the heat is causing that fps drop.  I'm not a computer expert so I can't say for sure that the temp is causing the fps issue but because of how hot your laptop is getting, I think I can safely assume that's problem.

You really have to find a way to cool your laptop because otherwise that heat will probably break it like mine did.

this is similar to an issue i had, you have a similar cpu to me aswell.

if you download CPUID or any program that can tell you your cpu temperature, so you can see how hot your cpu is running at when you're playing games. get those figures and report back with them. if it's really hot then you'll know the problem.

Yeah.... Celcius :P

WELL THERE'S YOUR PROBLEM!

i recommend some extra steps to cool down your processor. there's a variety of ways you can do it, external fans, cleaning out dust etc.

hope it helps :)
