New player needs to be taken by hand to run dayz

Hello survivors!

I bought the Steam's Arma collection recently, which included all Arma 1 and Arma 2 games & expansions. I installed everything and downloaded DayZ from the shop page as well.

When I tried to connect to a server I noticed that about 95% of the servers run another version than the 1.62 that I had installed. I tried to join the beta 1.8.0.2- form the Steam properties' menu, but it didn't let me connect to any server.

Then I tried to download the beta 1.62.103718, which is the version required by a Hive server (I read about the Hive feature in the Steam Discussions about DayZ) but during the installation I got a message saying that my cdkey was invalid.

I also tried to download and connect to some server through DayZ commander, and this is what brought me farthes, letting me seeing the players in the server, but the game got stuck for minutes and minutes (over 10) trying to load the map (I guess it was the last loading before I could spawn).

 

Can anyone give me a little of help? I'm ready to uninstall everything and reinstall if you make me, I just want to try this zombie game because it seems to be a real nice survival game.

Start both Arma 2 and Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead once and close them as soon as you are in the main menu. Then try again to join and play on a server and report here.

if you just search for a guide on youtube and do every step correctly, you should be having no problems whatsoever

I tried and I noticed that the main menu says that I'm running the version 1.62.95248. I didn't install this version, I wonder if somebody knows what version is this and if it anyhow helpful to understand what I have to do.

I tried but every video tells me to download a different version so I don't know which one I should go with.

 

I tried downloading and installing the 1.62.103718 because a Hive server was using it but then it didn't instal properly and I couldn't connect to the server. I tried to download an installer from here http://play.withsix.com/arma-2/mods/category/zombie but I don't know which one I should download.

 

 

EDIT: I tried again installing the 103718 but it still saying "Incorrect CD Key". As far as I've understoor reading and watching around it's the latest version, hence the one I should use, but I can't install it.

Don't worry about no cd key message with beta patch....everyone I know gets same thing. You may have to reinstall...I think the steps are....

 

Install arma2

Run arma 2 once (jus to main menu and back out)

Install arma 2 OA and run once

Then download and install dayz commander

Install dayz from the install/update tab

Also install the beta from this tab

 

Then you shoud be good to go :D
