piffaroni 13 Posted October 9, 2013 I was wondering, to have a lag free server, whats the best place to put the buildings and bases? the database or mission SQF?
boxman80 964 Posted October 10, 2013 (edited) I prefer the mission file as it seems to run smoother and it's easier to implement and delete/edit (in my opinion) as it's just a case of adding and deleting the relevant files, rather than having to edit your database.. However, buildings in the mission file seem to have a delay loading in on server restarts (in my experience) and can often take 2-3 minutes to load in, depending upon your host, how many map additions there are, how many separate map files you have included etc. Hope this helps. jan-w_16@hotmail.com 46 Posted October 10, 2013 Database is easy, just apply and wait for next restart.if you use the mission file and you built 1 thing incorrectly and you want to correct it, players have to download new mission file again.and if you have a lot of buildings in combo with large loadingscreen, might get pretty big. if you have the option, try database. Then, it would for the most part, create less lag because it wouldnt be at the merrcy of being have to streamed to players who might not have good internet speeds? Would this take care of dysnc issues as well? seems like data base each player needs to constantly need MORE information being piped down through the internet, causing a bottle neck? less info means less lag? jan-w_16@hotmail.com 46 Posted October 11, 2013 If you have a shitload of objects to get loaded from db you might get a yellow or red link just after server startup. And with a shitload I mean like 2000 depending on the server/db speeds.I think that mission file method is better for server restart times and server performance if you are going all out on amounts. On lower amounts below 1000 there won't be much difference in performance between the 2 methods. But somehow I prefer the mission file method because it eliminates possible issues with AI shooting through them and invisible objects if that object has an animation like some anti-air radars with moving parts.Overall, it's best to keep an eye on the amount of extra buildings and what they do.If they spawn zombies or loot then they can be harder on your server than other normal objects.Server doesnt give a shit about non-loot/zombie buildings.
