''Arma 2 Free'' DayZ vs ''Arma 2 Paid version'' DayZ

Recommended Posts

Sorry in advance if im writing this in the wrong thread.
I never played DayZ with a paid arma 2 version, but i did try ''Arma 2 Free'' downloaded "Dynamic_Zombie_SandboxA2.chernarus.pbo" in order to be able to play DayZ. Everything runs fine but im very disapointed with the game, there's always very few DayZ mod servers online, not everyone of them let me join, and when i do finaly join in one of them everything seems fine untill i meet some zombie, just then i realize that its lagging like hell (at first i came very close to a zombie, he did nothing, then ran away, and i started taking damage when he was like 50 feet away from me, as if hes close but i don't see it..)
My pc:
Win 7
8GB ram
3,3ghz 6core fx6100 procesor
GeForce gt650 ti oc;

No matter which server im in, mabie the servers are too far away (im from mid Europe) it's always the same, so my question is..
How different is DayZ with paid arma version from the free one? is it worth buying it?

Arma free is rather crap, It's designed so you can see what the game is about, It lacks texture and so many other details needed.

There are thousands of servers online, where were you looking ? here is what i see at the minute :

Dayz - 2011 servers

Epoch - 2475 servers

Overwatch - 415 servers

Taviana - 138 servers

There are also thousands of players online now.

Seriously, get ArmA 2 and Operation Arrowhead then try :)

*EDIT*

Dynamic_Zombie_SandboxA2.chernarus.pbo  That isn't Dayz, It's a community made mission, so you still haven't played Dayz :p no wonder you're lost.

You sure you're playing dayz? Dynamic Zombie Sandbox is a totally separate mod and has nothing to do with dayz.

The free version of Arma 2 has much lower res. textures for player models, weapons, the main map of Chernarus itself and lower quality sounds for many of the weapons etc.  In general it just looks a lot worse than the full version.

Regarding not finding many servers there's a couple of thousand of them so it sounds like you're doing something wrong.  Download DayZ Commander,  it'll help you a lot.  It's free 3rd party software that will allow you to browse all available servers and it's an easy way to keep all of your files up to date and download extra maps etc.

Regarding your performance if it's lag then that's related to your connection (or a bad server) so use Commander to find one with a lower "ping".  If it's low FPS then that's an actual performance issue, Arma 2 and DayZ are very intensive games to run (especially for your CPU) so make sure your PC can handle it.

Edit  - Actually, what is it that you're playing?  It doesn't sound like you're playing DayZ :/

The only way you can use ARMA 2 Free to play DayZ is if you buy Operation Arrowhead. As it's been pointed out, textures will be low res and the game will look fairly bad but it will work just like paid ARMA 2 version. What you're playing now is NOT DayZ.

Well it looks like DayZ, from what i've seen on youtube the map and everything looks the same (exept graphics). As of my pc it handles the game perfectly with everything set on maximum.

As of the servers, i've done all of this by a guide on youtube, i launch Arma 2, click multiplayer and browse there, theres always like a hundred of Arma 2 servers and few DayZ... im looking by what is writen in the mission section..  Well it doesn't matter then, from all of the answers i understood that i'll have to buy the game to play this masterpiece... I guess i will wait a bit till they release DayZ Standalone, hope it will be soon.

Thank you all for your answers and good luck to all of you :)

Yeah this kind of topic always reminds me to roll my eyes at DayZ defenders saying that is a free game.

The same way as like there's free drinks at the Porsche club, you'll need a Porsche though.

Dynamic Zombie Sandbox uses the same map and models as dayz apart from the zombies, they are both mods of arma so will look very similar.

If you don't have arma 2 operation arrowhead then you're not playing dayz.
