SFRGaming 718 Posted October 6, 2013 Ok, so I was thinking about this while scouting places I could build my base when SA gets basebuilding implemented. Then I thought about some tools we could use for building. I'm pretty sure vast majority, including myself, dont want a base where the foundation is not level. My OCD would go through the roof. So I thought, is it possible to implement a device such as http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/1207595677_1/Fashion-10pcs-Torpedo-Level-Measuring-font-b-Instruments-b-font-Water-Bubble-Solids-Sensor-Home-Decoration.jpg to find level ground? Or, better yet, when crafting the foundation, it sets itself in the ground and levels itself. Kinda like the houses that are currently on the map. You guys think this is a yay or nay suggestion? Write any extra tools you think we should have as well!
callsignBravo (DayZ) 323 Posted October 6, 2013 "yay" could have a level house with more supplies needed to make the base or a barebones minimum that isnt level.
sattmann 12 Posted October 6, 2013 I really like this idea! :-)
tyson.jpeg 0 Posted October 7, 2013 pretty good idea :)
AP_Norris 1018 Posted October 7, 2013 I like. For foundations it is a must.Maybe with this you could create cliff side bases where you go to craft foundations right on the edge of a cliff and poles go all the way down to when the ground clips aye you could make heli pads with it aswell.
Cormyr 39 Posted October 8, 2013 Have a look at how foundations are dealt with in Rust. Just auto-fills wherever there would be a gap underneath.

And I think it would be cool to be able to just stick crap over that frame like corrugated iron and other sheet metal, or plaster board which zombies can break really easy, Planks and plywood wood be great.Pardon the pun. It's in the exact light as the problem dean has with non-instanced underground bases. There is a huge map/performance issue with being able to manipulate the map in an open world rather than an individual cell. Tis the reason why Dean wants to make underground bases instanced like Skyrim. So, regarding that, I say you can build 2 types of foundations: A solid ground foundation, or a cliff side foundation. The solid ground foundation sets itself flat and fills in any spaces underneath, while the cliff foundation does it's job :p .

SFRGaming 718 Posted October 8, 2013 One way I suppose you could get around having 2 different foundations, is the bottom of the foundation reads the groudn when being build, and if all of the piece is not touching the ground, it fills in the spaces. If the distance is too big, it'll put columns/stilts under the foundation.
AP_Norris 1018 Posted October 8, 2013 One way, dean could do some optimisation on the matter is to find the cheapest and also most popular player built home styles and stick it as a single model directly into the code so when someone makes one it one object instead of 20. Cormyr 39 Posted October 8, 2013 Somewhat off topic, I really hope the underground instances thing is done. It will open up so many options for the devs, not just player bases. Yes it would be better if they did not have to be instances... but I would prefer instances then no underground stuffs at all... (sewers, big culverts, different types of tunnels, caves etc..) So yeah, if building bases on the map is too much of a problem for performance.. instance bases also!!
