tent and object placement in 1.8?

So im trying to place a tent or wire fencing and when I try to place it it tells me to rotate using Q and E, which simpl just leans side to side.

 

IF I try and move, I get told im moving too fast and I get stopped.

 

Ive asked on side chat, and people say right click to place to tent, but all it does is aim.

 

Ive tried logging out and logging back in,which places the tent but then it disappears on server restart

To rotate hold down Q or E, it takes a second or two before the tent moves.

 

To move around hold shift so that you slow walk.

 

And to place the tent use the scroll wheel, an option to complete build should show up.

Thanks fluxley, but im not getting anything like that :(

 

Holding the buttons doesn't seem to do anything for me, and theres no option on the scroll wheel to place anything or complete it :(

Hmm, thats not good then, is this on a vanilla server? should be working as i described, if not then somethings gone wrong.
