Nelorzoul 0 Posted June 21, 2012 So I can see my friend's map markings on my map. Why is that? Also, what's the deal with GPS? Can you only see other people with GPS on the map or people in close proximity or something? How's this work?Sometimes random people show up on the map even though I don't have a GPS - why is this? What determines if you see someone on the map or if someone sees you on the map and how does GPS factor into this. Does GPS even have anything to do with seeing people or was I just assuming too much?
bloodywolfpack@msn.com 1 Posted June 21, 2012 I ask myself the same damn questions.
Kopiovastaava (DayZ) 4 Posted June 21, 2012 If you have a map and a GPS, try pressing left ctrl+m.
Nelorzoul 0 Posted June 21, 2012 Oh wow. So that's interesting. Good to know how the GPS works now. What about the other stuff?
bloodywolfpack@msn.com 1 Posted June 21, 2012 Let break this crap down so it doesnt look like a down syndrome baby wrote this.1. Why do other players show up as a little yellow dot on my map that says "man" when you scroll over them? Does this have anything to do with me having a gps and a map? Can the other players also see me as little yellow dots? Does this have anything to do with both ME AND the YELLOW DOT PLAYER having a gps?2. Why do some players show up as a big blue dot when they are near me? Again, does this have anything to do with having a gps and map?3. If I mark a place off on the map, the blue dot player can also see this on HIS map...why is this?
Lopz 2 Posted June 21, 2012 1- Man, Yellow Dots, are Zombies AFAIK.2- When they shoot near you, the GPS shows their position for some time, ONLY in regualr servers where it shows your location. Veteran/Expert do not show your location.3- When you mark something on the map, it shows up to EVERY other player in the server. Markings also disappear upon log out. tasteycakes 0 Posted June 21, 2012 I'm pretty sure it depends on the server admins to show others on the map. Man=zombie and survivor/anything else= people

ZtruK 0 Posted June 21, 2012 Does it do this even if you Shift-LeftClick a spot on the map? Even with no GPS? Nelorzoul 0 Posted June 21, 2012 I don't see why the hell markings should show up on anyone's map besides your own. Is that honestly intentional? Seems like something that SHOULD be easy to fix if its a bug..
Kopiovastaava (DayZ) 4 Posted June 21, 2012 It's not a bug.
Nelorzoul 0 Posted June 21, 2012 That shit's fucking gay. When they see my markers they'll see me coming.
Lopz 2 Posted June 21, 2012 No, the Shift-LeftClick is actually a Waypoint. In some servers, it'll show an arrow on your screen and the distance to the waypoint.Only you can see that one.The markings are based on what comm. chat you are using, IIRC.Nek: IDK what setting it is, sorry. I know it has to do with Regular/Recruit/Veteran/Expert.That shit's fucking gay. When they see my markers they'll see me coming. What makes it homossexual?Even if it is gay, why do you care about the fezes sexual choice? It makes sense in a game based around survival that you should be able to mark off locations you deem important so that you can revisit them or warn yourself off from places or whatever. Nelorzoul 0 Posted June 21, 2012 Well if we want to turn this thread into a "how to use certain words" discussion then allow me to point out, Kopiovastaava, that you misspelled homosexual as homossexual which, unfortunately, isn't a word. Taking that fact into consideration, this conversation is no longer capable of advancing in the direction of word usage because it can't have possibly happened because you, technically, did not ask about my usage of the word gay with the assumption that I used it for its literal meaning and, thus, Nekrage did not respond to you with his comment about butt pirates, so on and so forth and suffice it to say the entirety of this thread from your post about "homossexual" to Nekrage's post about pussy did not happen. Fortunately for the intended purpose of the thread, we can return to discussing map markers and GPS - unless that issue has been completely addressed, in which case we can all stop posting. bonafide 2 Posted June 21, 2012 Seeing blue dot players on your map is a server side setting. Its the worst setting so avoid those servers if you see it.
thorgold 91 Posted July 3, 2012 Yellow Dots: ZombiesBlue dots: Humans. Arrow indicates direction.Black Xs: Map markers. Visible to ALL players.Waypoints: GPS only, visible to you alone. The reason map markers are visible to ALL players is because all survivors are technically on the same team, BLUFOR. As a result, the map mechanics still work as if we were all teamed up, rather than in a free-for-all, so some communication methods (side channel when that still worked + maps) are still server-wide.GPS markers are only visible to your unique GPS. If you drop the GPS and someone takes it, the mark will be saved. Which could lead to some interesting ways to give people the finger..."Oh hey, a location!"000,000 - FUCK YOU.
