Corpse Removal

I was wondering how long/what triggers corpse removal of player's corpses.

IE

how long you have to get back to your body?

Do they stay even through server crashes?

I think there's no removal atm and they will only be removed on server restarts.

I spend nearly an hour today defending the dead body of my friend, in the middle of a village, so he can get his stuff back. :D

Edit: I doubt that they will stay after a server restart though.
