Bugs or intended?

I just started the game, and it is major confusing. Can someone tell me if these are bugs or indended.

1. When I start game all I see is hills and grass. Not a single tree or rock, road or house.

2. When I run around for a while I see one guy standing up, and 5 people lying down under him.

Then what do I do?

You are in the wilderness and your only option is to respawn, the most common reason for spawning out there is that you went on a server that is running a different version of the mod as you.
