Skat3rat 1633 Posted September 10, 2013 Hey everyone, so I've tried googling my problem but I can't quite find what may be wrong. So for the longest time I could run Arma no problem. Until Sunday when I was playing and my video card crashed hard causing my computer to restart. I re launched Arma again and once again my video card crashed. However it crashed really hard the second time. I honestly thought I was going to have to buy a new computer because the screen was entirely screwed up. I could only launch my computer in Safe mode and there seemed to be almost nothing I could do. I ended re installing my drivers and that got my laptop back to normal. Then a few minutes ago I launched Arma 2. My video card crashed again, and now I'm worried to even run Arma because I'm afraid I could permanently mess up my laptop. Anyone have any idea what is wrong? The only error message is it saying my video card crashed.
SaveMeJebus 164 Posted September 10, 2013 Does only arma 2 cause this crashing? or are you able to run other games just fine? Your vid card may be toasted if any game you try to run causes this but hard to tell.

Mos1ey 6301 Posted September 10, 2013 (edited) Had you recently updated your drivers? If you did - try reverting to the previous version. Edited September 10, 2013 by mZLY
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted September 10, 2013 (edited) I've had this exact same problem the last few days. For ALL games. The only solution I've found so far is to update my drivers, the problem is that after every re-start I have to update them again. It's as if they roll-back every time I turn off my PC. Weird that you're having the same issues too :/ Edited September 10, 2013 by Fraggle
Guest Posted September 10, 2013 Firstly try troubleshoot the program directly by right clicking or checking in windows action center. If that doesn't work, try monitor your GPU/CPU usage when you launch arma, sometimes a program can spike and the computer/laptop will crash to prevent serious damage. Try a system restore, maybe an update was installed you were unaware of, also a virus scan won't go a miss Finally try a system defrag. If nothing works, let me know :)
Loafy 46 Posted September 10, 2013 My buddy had the same thing happen. Asus G50-Vtx5 gaming notebook turns out mobo had hairline crack where video card was. I'm with Dixon on that one monitor GPU/CPU usage and temps CTRL SHIFT ESC Bring up Task Manager and try see which is eating resources and what-not. I hope all works out for you WITHOUT buying a new rig. Happy Hunting :D
Skat3rat 1633 Posted September 10, 2013 Could be a heat issue Laptops are so shitty in my eyes they are unstable imo I'm thinking it could be a heating issue too. My laptop reaches 150 F easily. Had you recently updated your drivers? If you did - try reverting to the previous version. Updating my drivers actually allowed me to even log in normally and use my computer. So I don't think that is causing it. I've had this exact same problem the last few days. For ALL games. Try a system restore, maybe an update was installed you were unaware of, also a virus scan won't go a miss Finally try a system defrag. If nothing works, let me know :) I already did a system restore. I did a full scan and there were no viruses. I'll try defraging.
Skat3rat 1633 Posted September 10, 2013 OK so this seems to be happening for all my games on Steam. The only game it wasn't happening on was Minecraft.
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted September 10, 2013 For me it's not a temp thing, it's driver related but no idea why my drivers roll back every time I switch my PC off. It only takes me 2 mins to reinstall the latest ones but it's becoming a pain in the ass :/

It only takes me 2 mins to reinstall the latest ones but it's becoming a pain in the ass :/ I'm not sure what it is exactly. I have this laptop --> http://www.dell.com/us/p/studio-xps-1647/pd and everyone complains about this thing overheating. If overheating is the issue, then it took a while for it to affect my laptop because I've been using it since last July and am just now having this issue. SaveMeJebus 164 Posted September 10, 2013 Id almost lean towards a temp issue as well :( not sure if its a coincidence the only game that will work for you is probably the least demanding one you have.
FalconK 0 Posted September 11, 2013 Seems as if its a Internal issue. The Oboard graphics are most likely overheating, Or already overheated and caused Damage. Try again to reinstall the Drivers and restarting the Computer to see if it fixes it

If overheating is the issue, then it took a while for it to affect my laptop because I've been using it since last July and am just now having this issue.I feel so sorry for you, such a sack of shit of a laptop - exactly what I've been stuck with for months as my only machine. It's almost certainly heat, mines is slowly shitting itself one component at a time due to the temps, they are ridiculous - make sure you are going for the DELL Drivers on their website rather than the latest manufacturer drivers, they can be really finicky.~Crack that bad boy open and clean the area behind the fan, it always gets clogged up and any heat dissipation becomes non-existent. FalconK 0 Posted September 11, 2013 Like Rossums said above me, Try carefully opening it and reviewing the insides for clogs of dust etc. If you have some type of source of compressed air try blowing the dust out from inside of it with the compressed air can or so. Skat3rat 1633 Posted September 11, 2013 Well I'm pretty sure my laptop kicked the bucket yesterday. I cleaned out all the dust I could and then tried playing Arma again. It ran well for a few minutes and then crashed. I tried re installing my drivers via safemode like I did the first time but it isn't working. My laptop seems even more screwed up than before.A friend of mine is going to check it out later and see if he can fix it. I think it just overheated and finally broke. I'm thinking about getting an external graphics card but Idk if that will fix it.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted September 11, 2013 It's probably not what you want to hear but I think you'd be a lot better off just saving up and putting a desktop together. Laptops just aren't great for gaming, and you'll just end up having problems again eventually.
Skat3rat 1633 Posted September 11, 2013 I plan on saving up for a desktop once I turn 16 and get a job. As of right now I don't have means of earning enough money to afford a good desktop.
