Dynamic map objects (a question to dev team)

1) Full cache can be only server-side, and local player cache is only portions of changed data around them, so no huge download here.

2) Maybe, but servers has admins for that.

Maybe... A player can craft a certain item to make a special map.

This map is the key to a special area you can create when you craft such item and travel to the edge of the map.

It spawns an off map area where you can create a base that you can travel to and from with the special drawn map.

To get to and from you must either have enough petrol in your vehicle or... Several items of food and water.

If somebody else kills and takes your map it is possible for them to travel to your base when in the right place.

Only then would you have to download the base file to access their base.

It makes people impossible for somebody to come across your base by random chance, makes it more personal.

To keep the base from being completely safe, maybe zombies hordes could randomly spawn in your private little area.

Personally i prefer a small hideouts close to respawn points, so i can quickly get some stuff if getting killed, instead of huge bases deep in nowhere :)

 

Oh dear, imagine the lag.

Lags in DayZ Mod is very dependent from arma client-to-client architecture and lots of scripts involved. With new client-server + network bubble architecture in SA i expect very smooth gameplay.

Small hideouts are no good for hoarding and are nearly always found.

If map-hackers play on server - any hideout can be found, but i plays on whitelisted server with good anticheat (self-made), and my tents in Balota, Cherno and Electro has never be found. Of course most of them hidden inside small buildings, and for now it's becomes impossible.
