Is it fun to survive?

Recommended Posts

So, is it really funny to just be alive? Stay in the forests and bearly take any actions against violence, never see other players, never kill zombies. After a very nice gentlemen from TMW saved my life. I moved around the northern part of the map, always through the forest, checking my every corner.

Although, I never found this to be a fun way to play the game.Late into the night (day on the server I played on) I decided that either I take action or I go play Dota 2. I decided to take actions. I ran into Stary, shooting every zombie i could see, I had a fucking blast.

Nevertheless, there was a reason I was alive in the forest. I was being careful, when I was in stary and shooting any zombie on sight. The whole northern plane of the map should be able to bloody hear me.

No suprise, I was shot by a sniper, 1 shot through the chest, then another one in the leg.

So, there ends my fun, there ends my survival spree.

I want to apologies to the very nice TMW member who saved my ass, I also want to apologies to any zombies hurt in my fun.

I'm always struggling with indecision (thirst for action vs fear of being slayed).

As I don't play bandit style, I found the answer establishing objectives that put me in danger zones (like doing a loot run in Berezino Hospital).

Sometimes I help fresh spawns to fix a chopper, a car, the list is endless.

Yes, but doesn't player interaction mean instant death these days?

that's how it works..when i'm safe in the forest my biggest blast is finding a tent in polana or krasnostav cornershops..sometimes i go to zelenogorsk's one..since castles are military i just go there to resupply ammo..don't need to go to the barracks or stary anymore..

raid deerstands and refill the waterbottles..hunt a cow..that's endgame..if you need something to do repairing a car is an hell of challenge to do alone..

not really..use voice chat and don't turn your back at anyone..once i survived a sudden encounter in stary's cornershop..

That has never happened to me in the last 2 weeks of play, I'm constantly trying to talk to other players. It's always a death for me.

But what's the fun in surviving if you're not having fun? Unless the survival is the fun.

idk..it's not as fun as gearing up..you can always try to upgrade your gear..when i'm ok with the stuff i have, i just play less and stay more on the forum :-DD

my log in time becomes shorter..fill water, kill a cow, maybe a hospital run(at night if possible) just stay on a hill watching if i spot a survivor i'll never approach

i guess so..i hope in the SA..in any case, if you want a survive challenge just get infected by a zombie..you'll need to eat a lot more meat and make a lot of runs in civilian buildings/hospitals to find antibiotics..that's quite an edge and a challenge

Yeah, but it does feel a bit dull to play DayZ when, behind the iron curtains the SA is being crafted.

Yeah, such a shame that this game doesn't have a better end game.

What should this "better endgame" be?

Being flown out by a heli would definitely be shit even though it's been suggested before.

The first time I ever played DayZ, I was geared out in my first 20-minutes, I met a Hero and panic-killed him, he had everything. A ghillie, a camo Hummvee, spare  fuel, food, water, all the hunting gear, an M14 and DMR an 3 assault rifles in his car, ammo to boot, a military fashlight, range-finders, anti-biotic medicine, B packs, meat, and spare parts. I took the hummer and camped in the forest. I could survive for ages on the gear I found. The net few days, I hunted, got water, cooked. And sometimes I'd go for target-practice with the Zombies in ZelenoGorsk. Then, I received a distress signal from a Bambi in Cherno, I saved his ass and we had some jolly adventires untill he went ape on my ass with a hatchet. I hd to put him down.

I asked in side chat why he tried to betray me. He's like "Don't trust anyone in DayZ dude" I had lost my only friend in hellish ChernoRussia

I've only met two people that haven't immediately started shooting at me right when we seen eachother. The first one was on my first day of playing which was nice. He showed me the ropes and gave me some tips. He even gave me an M24 and watched my back while I looted buildings. Was having a great time, but then of course a car comes zooming down the road, spots me, and two bandits get out and start going full-auto on me and have me pinned down. I guess they didn't see the guy that was with me because he shot both of them in the back of the head. Then, like a pal, he comes over to bandage my wound and I hear a loud crack and he falls over dead. No idea where it came from, but obviously I hightailed it out of there. Never saw that guy again and I was too paranoid to go back and loot his body or the dead bandits.

The second one was on Origins, inside the hotel near the beach at Seven. He scared the piss out of me because he came running around the corner with a Mossberg and I barely was able to hit Caps and call out as friendly. Anyway, he apparently was with a group and they were making a video for youtube or something. He told me to tag along so I did for a bit until they hid in some bushes to go for a smoke break and I got tired of waiting and left.

Other than that, I get shot at every single time. Unless of course, I spot them first and ask if they are friendly, but I don't expose myself and we usually just avoid eachother and go our seperate ways.

Edit : Just realized that was borderline off-topic, but as far as surviving...I am currently on a server where I have a camp site set up deep in the woods a few miles from Elektro. I doubt anyone will come across it, but I have been offloading my shit into my tent and making runs into Elektro for supplies. I got a couple nice guns I found off some dead bodies at the hospital and a nice supply of sodas and canned food and lots of cooked meat from this cow I killed. It's pretty fun having a little campsite and making supply runs back and forth, but yeah, tents are fucking rare so it would suck without my lovely tent.
