crawl, if you are around a populated area that's even more advisable, you can get pretty close to then like this as well, without then noticing you. If there are no zeds around go crouched.

i usually crawl when crossing a street or park, any open area of land in a city i'll crawl across, but if i'm down an allyway i'll crouch. i don't flat out sprint unless i'm in the woods or generally outside a city
