i have read numerous posts on this subject (i apologize for another one...) just wanted to put my observations down in game they strike a cord with someone who knows how to fix or at least explain what is happening.

i just dled the game for the first time, yesterday. i get that /config/weapon error thing, i ignore it and click ok. i search for a server which is the same version as me (1.7.1.4, i think i am, but its whatever version came out yesterday)

i am stuck in first person, i see some people, what appears to be some kind of NPC, and the odd player who i can kill and loot, but who doesent seem to really be able to react to me. the landscape is just ground, no trees, water, buildings, or anything. i can run forever without anything really changing. I found an NPC standing in a pile of dead lootable bodies.

i have aborted, and i have killed myself, nothing changes when i reappear.

I'm assuming this is just a little glitch to do with the new patch.

has anyone had any success moving on into the real game after having this issue?

i have to read as many relevant posts to my issue as i could find, and it seems common for people to say it is due running (or failing to do so) some kind of beta mode?

can anyone confirm this, and describe how to go about doing this? im not very comp literate, and dont really know how to proceed in getting the game working.

myself and 4 friends are all having the same trouble.

You are stuck in so-called debug area. To fix the situation, you need to download and install the latest Beta patch for ArmA 2.

Just download the zip file from the top of that page and extract and run the .exe file from it. Just click yes until it is finished and it says it's installed succesfully. After this, there should be a shortcut called "Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch" in your ArmA 2 installation folder. Just add the -mod=@DayZ in the end of the target of that shortcut and run it.

There are many threads about how to install the beta patch by other means, for example, with Six Updater. I'd suggest using the Search with keywords "beta patch"
