Fishing rod + some new crappy animations and we've got a new awesome way of gathering food. We could fish in the lake, river or we could get in a motor boat and drive it deep into the ocean for fishing adventures. 

 

I've been thinking EVEN FURTHER... Some new crappy things to do in the water so we can spend more time in the water, and we've got sea bandits, but they're not just regular bandits. THEY'RE PIRATES !!!11 Pirates in DayZ, that's what we REALLY need.

I like pirates if they can refine sea combat and boarding enemy vessels.

Most pirates still operate off the shore however.

I think a one rod sort of fishing mechanic would be unrewarding.

I like the idea of trawler lines off the back of the fighting boat.
