Techercizer 82 Posted June 20, 2012 Personally, I feel like the old system really forced you to get out and look for food, and it gave you the feeling that even though your character wasn't in the server, he was still alive in some way after you logged off.Now that you only get hungry and thirsty while you're logged in, the need to eat and drink goes way down, and you can live forever by just logging off. Am I the only one who thinks that's a step down in terms of atmosphere and tension?Let me know what you think.
CaptainAnt 0 Posted June 20, 2012 TBH, no. I don't want to have some virtual pet that I have to take care of every waking moment of my day - that's not fun. I'd much rather have what the current system is.
bddy420 0 Posted June 20, 2012 I Agree. Previously if I should log in before work I knew that before I log out I needed a drink and food for when I logged in, sometimes Meaning a quick-Hurried run through a town or barn to snag a soda or some food. A Trip to a pond. A quick hunt. Now It doesn't matter. Log out indefinitely so long as when I do im in the green I know when I get back I'll still be in the green. It was just that if you left for a long time and came back, you'd need to eat and drink some of your stored supplies.
seraosha 3 Posted June 20, 2012 Like having 2 cokes and 2 cans of beans in your inventory while you went offline for a weekend made you feel more alive?Son, you need a girlfriend.

SillyGoose 0 Posted June 20, 2012 I thought the way it used to be was just a glitch, just because of how stupid it was.I completely disagree with OP - if I don't have any food/water under the old system I basically couldn't log out because when I came back I'd be starving to death (literally). That's pretty dumb. Glad it has been fixed.

Andrej Dudev 50 Posted June 20, 2012 I prefer that anything related to my character must be based on whatever I do ingame, not offline.Using your idea, Techercizer, I'd add bleeding recovery at the same rate while I'm offline.

It would certainly stop people from DCing to escape after being mauled or shot. I didn't bring that up in the OP because I wanted to focus on the mechanics (or glitches, if that's your style) that were removed.
SoulShaper2 243 Posted June 20, 2012 I enjoyed it, i do have a life but it made the game harder! it wasnt so stupidly hard that when i went to a festival in the Netherlands & came back i was dead, but enough to make me worry before i logged off knowing i better have emergency supplies for when i get back. It was just more involving and made it more engaging

A friend of mine logged in at max hunger and thirst with 3000 blood after bandaging himself up in the middle of the NW airfield barracks, and he was still able to: >crawl to a nearby pond >drink >crawl over the field until he found cow>kill it it>crawl over to the forest>chop wood>cook the meat>eat the meat despite his constant inability to see or retain consciousness. He's back at full health and doing fine now. All of this happened during the patch when food and drink spawns were basically zip, so it should be even easier for people to get a hold of food now. SoulShaper2 243 Posted June 20, 2012 Im actually at the moment waiting for back up :P i have 3000 blood and a broken leg, i have been crawling from sunday and made it to a wood but on my last can, and i was nervous when i logged off nowing i was running out of options but since this fix im not feeling overly worried like i was tbh
Redshift 58 Posted June 20, 2012 I never liked starving and dehydrating while offline. It didnt make much sense to me.You don't continue to bleed when you log off. If you log off while running you dont continue to run while you are offline. If you log off in the woods you dont get sick because rain fell in the area while you were offline. So why get hungry and thirsty while offline? The point of being offline is that you are OFFLINE, your character is no longer part of the world. It only makes sense that this applies to all aspects. Either nothing changes for you while you are offline. OR everything continues to affect you while you are offline and your character stays in the world and can be killed by any random passerbyer. And I dont think anyone wants that..... well ok there are a few people on these forums who seem hell bent for making this as brutal and unfun as possible who will probably say that they wish for exactly that

We can't keep characters in the world when they log off for long because we don't have the server system to support that, and there's a difference between being able to instantly die through no fault of your own while logged off and needing to eat and drink when you log in. About as much difference as there is between being shot in the face and taking a swig of water.
