Fix/Solution: Lag Spikes/FPS Drops/Stuttering

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

since none of the help I found in google helped me (always the same, like: cfg tweaks, change ingame graphics, use "game boosters" (which are crap btw)) I finally found a solution which probably will help more, since we are going to analyze where the problem is coming from instead of changing bunch of settings which are nonsense and in almost every topic mentioned.

My CPU clock went down from 2.8 to 800MHz while playing DayZ... so I thought it might be overheating, which wasnt the case.. My Mugen cools my CPU always under 50degrees.

DayZ simply couldn't challenge the CPU, so it clocked back to 800MHz and I had these LagSpikes or how you want to call them.

So, all you do is download CPU-Z and start ArmA2 in Window Mode or move CPU Z to a 2nd Monitor if avaible, and everytime the FPS drops and your game lags, take a look on CPU Z

and watch your Core Speed, which probably will change. So basically it stays at 2.8GHz if you play a game or do something else, but it seems like that it changes its Clock while playing DayZ.

Anyway, the solution I found, which might not be the best related to saving energy, is to disable features like:

C1E

Cool'n'Quiet

Turbo Mode

These are the modes I disabled in my BIOS (AMD CPU). It helped, the only thing is it will stay on 2.8GHz even if you do nothing, so its up to you how you're gonna handle it. There are similiar options for PCs with Intel, just take a look into your BIOS.

Lets keep it short: My CPU got bored with DayZ, or since the engine is poor optimized it didn't challenge my CPU somehow (which is pretty weird), so I told my BIOS to deactivate energysaving settings so it always stays on his highest Clock.

Programs I recommend:

CPU-Z # Shows you a lot of informations about your CPU and few other things (in realtime)

GPU-Z # Shows you a lot of informations about your GPU and few other things (in realtime)

MSI Afterburner # You can activate a OnScreenDisplay for Games, which shows the actual use of vRam, the GPU heat and more things, also you can modify your GPU (overclocking, undervolting,...)

Speedfan # Shows you your temps (CPU, HDD, GPU, ...)

Its important to analyze what could be the reason for that instead of using Google for 10 Hours without any solution :p

Also speedstep, and CPU parking can be problematic.  Thanks for posting!
