I know this has been suggested but i want my own post to make some valid points to why this should not be forgotten.

Yes ofcourse accidents happen IRL aswell but.

This is not IRL this is a game with only a limited of characters to choose from. wich has its limits.

Here is a list of regocnition signs that probably never will be implemented in dayZ.

-height

-figure

-movement (how people move)

-act

-character

probably much more.....

I can say i played this game quite awhile now and the other day was playing with my brother. he didnt say he was moving down to a car, and i didnt see he do it, when i came over a little hill he was  just 15m infront of me. Yes i could or should of asked if it was him, btu i was very suprised to see someone there so fast and killed him..

We had a good laugh about it  but it would never happen IRL.

I'm hoping that further down the line in development character customisation will be looked at more closely.

Initially it's going to help that we'll have loads more clothes to choose from and not be stuck with those same skins that many of us are sick of.  Later on I'd love to see more options for when you spawn a fresh character.  Dean has said he'd like players to really take ownership of the character so I'm sure at some point it may be possible.

Paying attention (so as to avoid friendly-fire) is your duty.  :P

More character variety in SA will make spotting buddies easier. Even if it's not fool-proof.

Auto IFF (or other identifying icons) just wouldn't be DayZ.

Disorientation and uncertainty is at the backbone of player interaction.

I liked the specification on movement. That REALLY clarified the topic...

But seriously, yes. That WOULD happen "IRL." There are a LOT more friendly fire incidents in real life than you'd think.

And you know what? There's also no TeamSpeak in real life. Guess we should remove that too...

I agree, you have to work with the tools you have.  When you're in a squad clear communication is key, especially when we all look the same.

When I play Arma in a squad everyone is dressed the same (usually) because we're all playing as soldiers and you quickly learn to keep your ears peeled and only speak to communicate important info or to confirm orders (when playing seriously).

Obviously DayZ is different but if you want your group to do well the same rules apply, having said that when we all look a bit more unique it'll be a much nicer game to play because in DayZ the individual is more important than when you have a group of 40 soldiers and players that aren't used to mil-sims (which are many) will have a much smoother ride and hopefully kill less friendlies.

How you Move is a huge aspect of your personality.

In a crowd of 100 random people all wearing while blankets you would spot your mother just because you know her.

Ofcourse if you just met a guy and make a group this does not apply.

Maybe a better icon for a regular buddy or a long Group involvement.

Edit: Yes i would very much like teamspeak to dissapear aswell, but that wont happen more than SA release.

I certainly hope more variety and not to much motorcycle helmets :P

But even tho a guy has the exact same clothing combination as your buddy he shouldnt just be able to infiltrate you, if you know what i mean.

Hey (insert name here) is this you standing by the car? no thats not me,, but he looks exactly like you! like a clone..

Dayz characters are clones and it should be more relaxing moving around with your buddys...

Arma may be a military simulator but DayZ is a survivor simulator. We are not soldiers.

If someone has the patience and skill to stalk your team, dress up exactly like one of your buddies and infiltrate your group, you'd just have to man-up and admit you got outplayed.

Simple communication and a little bit of caution would prevent it.

Nobody needs a role-call, strict formation or anything like that. Though, every little helps.

A lot of the best gameplay moments come from the tension of seeing (or not seeing) other players, not the actual interaction.

Honestly, reducing players' need to stay vigilant would ruin a vital part of the game.

EDIT:

Different builds or ways of moving would definitely add variation in characters, and make for a better experience overall.

I'm just saying it's not absolutely essential, if you're careful.
