A story about Servers only Helicopter and how it went up in smoke.

Recommended Posts

ORIGINALLY MADE BY: Althuin. I was the other tractor guy who was patching the heli and the solo guy was called Maisteri

DayZ Chernaus map, Berezino, 11 am.

Me and a couple of friends are out looting. We're doing really, really well; we have a helicopter, MI-17, only one in the server. We also have a car (pick-up truck),

weapons (several M4's and an AK) and other supplies. We're just looking for a backpack + some antibiotics and repair parts. We head out to town from our camp,

packing our stuff into our bags. We fuel up our heli and fly away into a forest close to Berezino.

We left the heli into the forest and trekked into town. We started out at the hospital, and managed to find some antibiotics. Our looting trip went pretty smoothly,

going from the town to the industrial area and picking up worthwhile gear all the time. However, problems started arising around the time we're heading back.

I happen to make a brilliant move while looting, though. I find a Coyote backpack in a grocery store, and equip it. Later on, I also happen to find a crowbar. Now,

I'm wielding an AK-47 already, but hey, since we're surrounded by zombies, I'd rather have a melee weapon, right?

So I shove the AK into the Coyote pack and equip the crowbar.

I shove the 10-slot AK into the 8-slot backpack.

2.5 seconds later, the Skype call cracks up.

One weapon poorer, we decide to stop bitching about it and continue our journey. After some looting, we decide to call it a day and start heading back to the heli.

We get separated on the way back; I'm with one of my friends, while the other one is off solo. Me and one of my friends stop by a barn while heading back.

When we turn around the corner, we make a surprising find.

2 fully functional tractors, albeit with empty tanks.

Well, my friend and I, in a fit of genious thinking, decide to fuel up the tractors and fire away. What could be more brilliant; cruising around with tractors in

Berezino? We even go as far as to plan driving the tractors all the way to our base, about 5km away.

What could possibly go wrong?

While fueling up the tractor, we encounter zombies. A lot of them. And when I say a lot, I mean a LOT. Both of us end up getting infected. But hey, who cares about

blood levels when you have a tractor?

We formulate a new plan. We decide to go on about it by driving to the helicopter, saving the tractors over there for future use, and then committing suicide. When the

final guy gets to the heli, he will fly the heli to the south coast, pick us up, and then we all go to base and call it a day.

Or that was the plan.

When we get back to the helicopter, we leave our tractors nearby. My friend starts patching up the heli's hull, digging through his inventory for the materials.

I decide to try and hide the tractor a little better. After all, if we're gonna come back here, might as well make sure the tractor is going to stay here, right?

So I hop in the tractor and start driving it to a good-looking brush.

A brush close to the helicopter.

A brush close to the helicopter that has a hitbox as big as a small house, extending well beyond the visible limits.

All I could hear were a small click, a big boom, and then a ringing of the ears.

My friend's last words (before the mandatory Skype laughter/obscentities) were "Okay, I'm gonna repair the heli's hull now".

After the smoke had set, I assessed the damage. One of my friends was now dead, every single functional vehicle we had was blown to bits, all of the gear that was not

on our bodies (including all the fuel we had) was gone, I was infected with roughly 1/5 of my blood remaining, and my other friend was in town, chased by about

20 zombies.

All in all, a normal DayZ day.

But hey, at least I did something original; I blew up the only helicopter in the server.

With a tractor.
