A doctor's journal

I have decided to make a journal to keep track on my life, this won't be a dedicated one, just one for when I feel like writing about what has happened, today.

Entry #1

I woke up today with a blinding headache, however this didn't stop me driving to the hospital, I wonder if the tea helped.

Treatment: Kept him in hosptial and monitored his blood pressure.

Additional notes: I have never seen this before, something is very wrong.

---------------------------------

The last patient has concerned me, it does not seem like he has a common stomache bug. But much worse, I will be studying his progress for the next few weeks, I can assure this journal will continue, especially with what I have seen today.

Entry #2

This patient, something is definately wrong. His eyes are fading by the second, like his heartbeats are the ticks of a clock, counting down to his fate. You could call this "Day two", of these journals. I started my day today with my son running into my room shouting "happy birthday, dad!", I wouldn't call it an unpleasant waking. Just loud.

I was treated with eggs on toast and a herbal tea for my breakfast, which was tasty to say the least. The day was going perfect so far, until I saw the patient again.. It's like his mind is turning, into a being who's mind is, well, dead. Everyday he's been sick, just none stop vomitting for hours upon end, when he sleeps he has a silent growl, which appears in each of his dieing breaths. He hasn't been healing, that is for sure, but not getting worst, it's more like he's transforming into another being.

Entry #3

I've decided to name this patient: Patient Z, his body seems so weak, almost like it could be crushed by such little force, the growling has gotten worse and it seems like he's trying to bite me through the glass.

Whatever this "infection" is, he's not the only one with it. I heard the hospital in Berezino has 10 patients with the exact same issue, and it doesn't take a genius to realize that something very wrong is about to happen. On a more happy subject, I bought my son his new mountain bike, he was very please with it. With the massive smile on his face that was all I needed to keep me going. Sleep now, more studying tomorrow..

Entry #4

Day Z

There is chaos, chaos everywhere. People screaming, children crying, the world is ending, humanity is dieing as we speak.

I woke up this morning to hear the news blasting from down stairs, I come down to see Jane and Michael hugging each other, it was when I saw their faces where I knew something was wrong.

"Steve, we need to go" , Jane exclaimed to me, she seemed so panicked

"All these patients have turned into-" I paused her and came to calm her down, I've never felt someone's heart beat so heavily

"Listen, calm down. Take deep breaths then tell me what's going on" I said, trying to calm her down. It wasn't working.

"I think they're zombies" Michael said whilst looking at the screen "I mean, look at there faces!"

At this moment I would usually tell Michael that was silly and zombies aren't real, until I saw what was on the T.V. They were zombies, running, growling, crawling, screaming. I couldn't watch any longer, the sight of helpless civilians trying to escape hoards of undead was too much.

After calming those two down, I went up stairs and got dressed, grabbed the axe from under my bed and the shotgun from the closet, bringing around all the slugs I could find. After getting the weapons sorted I decided to grab a bag and start stocking up on food, grabbing anything which could be edible, including drinks. Of course. I couldn't comprehend the fact that I didn't think that this what the infection was, how was I so stupid? I tried not to think about it, as the real thing to think about was where we are going to go. That is if we do want to go.

Around two hours past and we were set to go, in terms of supplies, at least. Jane was in tears and Michael too, I don't know what was worst: the infection or seeing them like this. After a few hours of crying and thinking, I decided that we should leave, our house was too dangerous being near Novy Sobor, I wouldn't want to risk their lives like that. We fled up north past the airfield, to a little barn, it had hay to sleep on and animals to well, kill and eat. It gave me a chance to practice killing these monsters, I was surprised on how quickly the infection has spread. Yes it would travel up north but this far? I was amazed, none the less the zeds inside the barn were no more, I hope..

Entry #5

I don't know how many days have gone past, my mouth is like the Sahara and I can't feel my left arm. And all I hear are the growls from the near by town and the waves from the sea, I might as well write what happened.

It was late in the night, Michael was asleep as was Jane. It was peaceful, to say the least. I was sharpening the axe and having a bite to eat, then all of a sudden I hear "Drop the axe, stand up and put your hands behind your head, or I'll shoot you to shit". My mind was racing: Is he going to shoot me? What about Jane and Michael?

I feel a sudden pain on the back of my leg

"Did you hear me? I said, walk out of the barn with you hands behind your head, or I'll slit your throat", he shouted. I felt sick, like I was about to vomit out my lungs.

"Listen, please! I don't want any trouble!" I screamed

"Oi, who told you to talk? Exactly, no one! Now lay down your piece of shit" The another man said whilst pointing his gun at my face, they sounded English. I hear a little groan, then look to see Jane waking up from her sleep,

"What, what's going on?" She says, I could see she was tired and wasn't in the right state to see what's going on.

"E'llo e'llo e'llo, oi Jake! Look at the pair on her!" The fat one shouted

"Aint what lovely!" the tall one said.

"Don't talk to my wife like that, she is human, you sick men" I shout, as the words came out I realized how stupid I was to say that.

"Well, we got a tough guy here? Don't we Larry?" the tall one says, looking down at me. I feel a sudden blow in my gut, then I hear a crack as the tall one strikes me in the nose. I hear the screams of my wife then son, it took away the pain from punches and kicks.

I don't remember anything after that, except for waking to seeing my son and wife standing with their hands behind their heads, and three men with rifles lined up, aiming right at Jane's and Michael's heads. I'm scared and worried, what if they're dead? What if they're being held hostage? No, they're probably fine and in a new barn, all safe and sound.. I feel sick from it still, and I'm in pain, at least I feel like I'm falling asleep as I write this, it eases the pain..

Slee

*The writing stops there*

Entry #6

My body has healed, luckily. I started today with traveling to the near by city of Elektro, to look for supplies, I was lucky with my find. I managed to not only get food and drink, but medical supplies, as well. Lets create a list on what I now have:

4 blood bags

3 morphine

5 bandages

2 boxes of painkillers

1 box of antibiotics

2 cans of beans

3 cans of sardines

1 coke cola

2 pepsis

I've started traveling up north, in search to find Michael and Jane, I fear yet long the day I find them. What state will they be in? What will they be in? Those men were sick, and if I find them- I won't go any further. I don't understand why they didn't kill me, I talked back and was nothing to them, maybe they expected me to drown? I rather not think about it. I will stop writing now, as walking is more important.

I've made it to our house! I'm done-in and can't walk anymore, and it's dark. So I will station up here for the night, I've figured what roads I will take:

Keep on following this road till I hit Novy Sobor, from there I take a left to Stary then turn left on the next road I see. I don't know if I want to see them there or not, my mind is confused and tired. I should rest, but I feel like I should stay up, just for a little longer..

Entry #7

I feel dead inside, as if I'm one of the monsters, everything I cared for in my life is gone, why did I stand up for her? Look what it caused, I can't even think straight, I'm saying stuff I don't even mean. Christ, I might as well end my own life here and now, I have nothing to live for anymore, everyone is dead, there's no chance of survival anymore..

I might as well write what happened: After walking up the road for around 20 minutes, I see two bodies in the distance, as I walk up closer and closer I start fearing the worse. I can't describe what I felt when I saw the faces on the bodies, it was Michael and Jane. I curled up and started to pray that it wasn't them, just people who look similar. Despite feeling like my lungs were trying to escape my throat, I walked closer, almost like I thought they were going to attack me. The smell was terrible, just one whiff was enough to make me sick, when I saw the clothes I knew it was them, I felt like I died when I realized it was them. Almost like I'm slowly crumbling into little pieces of nothing. I was so angry, what happened to them? Who did this? The thoughts wouldn't leave, but all I knew was that if I stayed any longer I won't get any better. So I took a different way and instead turned right on the road, heading to Guglovo. Besides, it wasn't like I was bothered anymore..

Later on..

It's been around 6 hours since I left Novy, I think I'm at Krutoy Cap. Great, I'm back where I started, well done Steve you idiot. I found a survivor just outside Guglovo, the poor bastard busted up his leg, he could be heard from miles away with his screaming. I was surprised the zeds hadn't eaten him yet. I gave him a transfusion and then some morphine, to ease the pain, then made him a type of walking stick so he can get around. I doubt it was much help, though. I feel like my mind is turning upside down, almost like I'm becoming one of the creatures, I feel lost and like I have no purpose. As I was walking to Elektro, I noticed an island on my left, it would have meant nothing to me if I hadn't seen the lights on it. It's amazing how seeing just a little fire somewhere can just put a massive smile on one's face. I packed what I needed then head off to there, swimming the whole way, it was painful and I started to not feel my feet, it was that cold.

I made it there and walked closer and closer till I made it to the camp, it was nice, and warm which was good. But no one was there, so I decided to have some mutton and my pepsi then went into one of the tents to go to sleep. But two hours have gone past and I still can't close my eyes without seeing the images again, the bodies, their faces, I guess writing helps me forget about it.
