Jimmy Russells 0 Posted July 7, 2013 So the other night I was playing the Walking Dead game, when I thought about a type of infection for DayZ. What if you could get infected and slowly become a zombie? How would you get infected with this disease?By being bitten. There could be a small chance of being bitten by a zombie if they get too close to you, and a bigger chance if you are knocked out and zombies are attacking you. Viral zombies would be the transmitters of the infection. What happens when you get bitten? When bitten, you will get a screen effect similar to the red screen when you break your legs (Maybe have a 'bitten' icon at the side where the broken bone icon is). You will then have a 'grace' period in which you should sterilize the bite (like the new infection system being worked on by the devs). If you do not sterilise the bite, then you become infected. What will happen to players who are infected?Slowly over time, the edges of the screen will darken (like tunnel vision) and may have a red tint to it. You would not lose blood when infected but your vision may still go slightly grey. You can slow down the infection with anti-biotics, but it won't stop it.When the infection nears completion, the edges of the screen will pulsate. This can signal the player that their time will be up soon and to figure out what to do.Eventually, the player will collapse and die. But instead of the body just laying dead on the ground, it will get back up as a zombie and wonder around. All the gear will stay on the body. Depending on the health of the player before death was, will determine the strength of the zombie. Players at full blood will be the strongest, whereas those with low blood will be easy to kill. Can this infection be transmittable between players? No. Only zombies should be able to spread the infection. Unless taking blood from yourself to give to other players is implemented, then the infection can be transmitted. This can lead to infected people giving tainted blood. If blood is received from a tainted blood bag, then you will not have a grace period, since your body has the infection circulating in the blood.Spotting infected people:To spot infected people, you could look at their face. Maybe have a variable texture for the face which changes depending on how far the infection has progressed. The face may be pale and the eyes may be dark. Blood may be visible around the mouth and nose. That's all I have for it so far. What does everyone think? Please give some feedback :)
