His name was unknown, he died from unknown

Recommended Posts

Currently the most pointless feature in the game! Instead of this, the players name should be revealed on his dog tag (if he is wearing one) and should indicate the cause of death and the estimated time of death.

Damn right , but i think we should have a little pop-up while examinating the body saying for example "there's scratches all over his body and his blood his still warm -> Zombie death less then 15min".

Agree completely. When I noticed the "study body" option I was excited because I figured that now I will know if there is a bandit in the area or if it was Zeds.

I like the idea of being able to study a body and tell the following things:

-Range of time he has been dead. Was it 10 minutes ago or 30 seconds? Im not asking to be told in those specific terms. But "The body is still warm" "The body has grown cold" could be used to differentiate this.

-Was he killed by a player or Zeds.

-If he was killed by a player you should be able to determine what type of bullet was used (this would tell you if you are on the lookout for a sniper or and axe wielding maniac, and allow you to plan accordingly).

Yes, more options open to interpretation would be better than a flat time. I just currently hate seeing a corpse and having no idea how long it has been there, who it is or how it died!

"His name was unknown, he died from unknown"

I got that from a dead sheep once, a few seconds after I shot it.

I like this idea, checking a body shouldn't say that someone was murdered outright but just say the injuries that the corpse has like "the body has several bite and scratch marks" or similar variations along those lines for someone who was killed by a zed, and things like "The injuries this person sustained are consistent with gunshot wounds".

Not sure how you would go about identifying a player though.

Oh I dont think it should tell you who killed the person, that seems unreasonable. I mean you dont have a CSI team in your inventory to use magic machines that don't exist to tell you who killed the person ;D. I don't even care if it tells me the name of the person who was killed. That really doesnt matter much.

But something like this would be great:

"This body has suffered multiple gunshot wounds caused by a standard rifle round. The body is warm and must have been alive not that long ago."

or

"This body has suffered multiple lacerations and massive bloodlose. The body is cold and appears to have expired some time ago"

There is ambiguity in both instances. Though more-so in the second one. Lacerations could be caused by an axe wound, or zombie for instance.

Yes, I've been wondering when this feature would be implemented! As it is, information about dead players' equipment is being stored in the database for the purpose of looting, so adding extra data for time and circumstances of death shouldn't be too difficult, I would have thought.

I think an idea someone had was that everyone spawns with a dog tag on. This has on it your name.

To fit this in with the study body idea, an option will be there to drop the dog tag, then when you study a body the name is revealed if they have it still on or their name was unknown, if they removed it.

Love the ideas for ambiguity regarding corpses. If they manually respawned, let it say "this player committed suicide"

[/quote']

It shouldn't say outright "this player committed suicide, was killed by an infected or another player" Would totally hurt the authenticity and ruin immersion. This is why global-chat was removed. Meta-gaming isn't removable from any online game but it shouldn't be a feature or even endorsed/supported within the game, especially if it's a game like DayZ.

When studying a dead players corpse it should be within the realm of the DayZ universe. Is the body warm or cold? Does the body have gun wounds, flesh wounds etc.

Rocket mentioned body inspecting when he did the dual commentary with totalbiscuit and said he will add that feature.
