SA: Scarcity of fuel and ammunition or cars and weapons?

Recommended Posts

It may be an odd title but I'm curious how people are thinking over this for the Standalone. For example, would you rather that There be a limit on the resources needed to work a car or weapon or a scarcity of the actual car or weapon. I think I'd prefer there to be the same amount of weapons but less ammunition and actually make people have to expend food and water looking for ammunition. That way ammo becomes too precious to waste in a random PVP for no reason. Secondly I'd like to see a fair amount of vehicles but less fuel. I just think that'd make the game a lot more challenging.

Not to be a smart ass, but bullets get used, guns don't. Bullets are a once only consumable in the apocalypse; they're fired, and forgotten about. You find them, you use them, that's it. You don't just drop them when you're done.

You do drop your gun when there's no ammo left, if you're foolish.

It doesn't make sense to make guns/cars rare in place of bullets and fuel. They don't just stop existing. I'd say 67% weapon spawn rates and 33.34% current ammo/jerry can spawn rates would be good.

I would like to see more cars (possibly many scattered along the highways) but only a very limited amount of fuel.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree, it's just a few people on here seem to want a gun and three mags in every building. I was just curious what the general consensus was!

My personal taste is that if I find a winchester with 8 rounds im going to be very very happy indeed... make of that what you will.

I want to see a lot more melee weapons. Knives/Bats/Clubs etc. I want to be pretty happy when I find a simple rifle (Lee Enfield) and I want to be ecstatic when I find a military grade weapon. I also want ammo to be a lot rarer than what it is.

Yes I would like to see more melee weapons and less ammunition in places like schools and churches and other places it shouldn't be.

More vehicles and guns, YES. Less ammo and fuel, YES! More melee weapons, YES!

But also more parts to get the damn vehicles working! Please? Let loners fix up and own vehicles too, not only 3-4 man groups. That would be awesome!

Yep...due to chemical differences. In the brain. Subpar ones. ;)

Too harsh indeed... :D

Back to topic:

One more thing that would be great: TANKS :D Imagine, driving up to town with an armored vehicle! Of course they would consume massive amounts of fuel, and you could not drive and fire at the same time (or no ammo at all?), but it would be a blast.

I imagine myself sneaking through town, when suddenly a tank pops out of nowhere. *scared shitless* It would be epic :D

This isn't necessarily true. I personally don't have experience doing it, but lots of people reload their ammunition. Granted it would be harder in an apocalypse as you would run out of the actual projectile and probably the gunpowder (can't think of what they use nowadays). However you could definitely put a mechanic like that in. Like in the SA demos when you eat the beans or whatever a tin can appears. Well when you shoot shell casings appear. They would be quite difficult to find in grass, but easy to see on concrete. To reload you would need the equipment, the projectile, some shell casings, powder, and primer.

You said you haven't done it? Let me tell you, it's a meticulous pain in the ass process requiring fine-head tools, gunpowder, and access to extremely hot, directionable flames and hopefully a decent workbench. Brass casings that aren't melted down and reshaped (requiring molds and lots of time) that get hammered into shape jam, misfire, and don't perform very well. Making a lead tip for a bullet requires, obviously, led, another mold, more fire, and a casing for getting both parts together.

Gunpowder doesn't grow on trees. Lead doesn't grow on bushes.

Right. But you could find gunpowder, bullets, primer, etc. as loot (if it were in the U.S.). However I don't think it would be common at all in Russia. As I said you can use the shell casings you from the rounds you fired.

Shell casings that have been used can't be refit no problem; they get scorched, burned, stretched, and dented when a round is fired (the gas from a bullet is really hot, in case you didn't know). You'd still need a workstation and tools. In fact, I'd say reshaping a brass casing would be harder than melting it down and using a mold... and this isn't the US. The only things common in an ex soviet client are crime, poverty, and kalashnikovs. If the industrial foundation was provided that would be necessary for 10 year post-apocalypse scavenging of working parts, tools, and materials to produce bullets and weapon parts was provided to eastern blocs before the soviet fall, countries like the Ukraine would be leading exporters of "Russian" firearms. Thanks to this, the taxed gun market would bolster government resources and civilian response strength to the zombie outbreak. Potentially if the existence of these factories, and their parts, existed pre apocalypse, the "Apocalypse" might not have hit apocalyptic proportions in the first place.

Long story short (tl;dr) you aren't going to find shit.
