victusmortuus 1074 Posted June 25, 2013 Please for the love of god keep it server side only, as surely I can't be the only one worried that people will play Dubstep and Teletubbies over the radio to 'troll'. Hopefully somebody comes into this thread and tells me I'm wrong.
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) No need to panic. Firstly you need to remember they'll probably be rare. Secondly you need to remeber they will require batteries which will probably be rarer.Thirdly you need to remember that you can shoot people that piss you off.Technically, think of how VOIP works now for direct chat in-game. The radios are basically an extension of that already existing feature. Edited June 25, 2013 by Fraggle
marcjpb 5 Posted June 25, 2013 I dont think you will see this. Not with dubstep or teletobies anyway because the only radio channel that will be avaible will be the one run by the community. In the demo Rocket can though a bunch of regular satellite radio but i highly doubt those would be there.

The radios are basically and extension of that.I have VOIP turned off due to the many brilliant minds talking on sidechat so I may miss that one survivor trying to reach me I hope that wont be the case for the radios. I really hope they are very rare and that you do need a lot of things to get it going -perhaps you find them broken for example-I dont think you will see this. Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) As with most things being tried out for the alpha, much of it is experimental and will rely heavily on player feedback once we're playing to see which direction it takes and if it will be included in the final release at all.IMO people need to generally chill out about seeing new things being added. If new things/ideas aren't added or at least attempted then we may as well stick to the mod. Something being tried out does not mean it's written in stone, the game will evolve over development largely based on player feedback/statistics etc. Many of the things we're seeing haven't been tried in any game before, EVER, so it's only natural to be skeptical about it but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be attempted, in fact I think that's precisely why it should be attempted.I've seen so many hysterical posts recently (not you Victus) where people see a new feature such as food having certain calories and so on, then take that idea to the most extreme conclusion in order to state why it's rubbish. When we see a new idea being implimented, we need to remember that it is one small thing amongst many that will make up the game and that as an idea/concept it will evolve throughout alpha and beta testing. That's my opinion anyway. Trizzo 632 Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) And don't tune into that frequency? Or turn it off? Or run away from it? Not meaning to sound to nasty but radios are going to be amazing for players who want an authentic in game experience without VOIP.Had a good chance to practice using sidechat today to see how two way communication with unkown parties works out. It was awsome. Somebody needed antibiotics (who doesn't these days), told him to come to X co-ord, made him run along the beach so i could see if he was being tailed or if i was being played, told him to drop his guns at a rock and run another 500 meters. Passed on the goodies, took a morphine from his bag as payment and parted. This might not seem like much but previously i never, NOT ONCE, met over side chat. Seeing as 2ways are being added I'm a litte more prone to side chat meet ups. 2ways are really gona help boredom and feeling part of an inhabited world. Hopefully green mountain will play a role in radio! Not to mention annoucing your arrival to certain areas and letting parties know about it. SoulHunter (DayZ) 233 Posted June 25, 2013 Its not like there will be only one radio channel possibility or a global voip option. that said no need to worry at all anyway..
