What if Zombies Screamed and Echoed?

I can see it now...

You're walking through the woods with your friend when you see that lonely cabin, and that Old Hatchback you were going to repair. Just a few zombies in the way, no big deal.

Then your flashlight catches the eye of one... A scream bursts through the silence and alerts all of the other zombies. Silhouettes dot your light's beam as they sprint for you. Their screams filling the air to the point where you feel surrounded. Gunfire ignites the darkness, as a far off survivor hears the echoes of the battle, and cowers with his flashlight.

I never understood why zombies were so unsocial... Wouldn't it be realistic if they called out for their brethren to assist them? And seriously... If you could hear gunshots and the screams of zombies for a half a kilometer or so, that would be badass.
