GBTP 114 Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) I always liked the Idea of spawning on another map after death, would make life a little bit more difficult for Hoarding Monkey Abusers.I like this concept. Gear would still be there but that way your new character 'John' wouldn't have the utmost intimate knowledge of exactly where your last character 'Steve' had stashed all of his loot. A type of server cycling.I understand this wouldn't be feasible because then you wouldn't be able to stay with your group or clan if you couldn't choose the server you respawned in. But it works to tackle the issue that I have with people hording equipment so they never have to survive without the best gear while still balancing the realism people demand from items not vanishing.Edited for clarity. Wich means they put effort into it.They are just being properly prepared. Dont hate because you fail or choose not to do it.
radrussian1 (DayZ) 23 Posted June 23, 2013 so what would be the point of tents?
GBTP 114 Posted June 24, 2013 If they stockpile that gear, they had to get it from somewhere. Which means they put effort into it.They are just being properly prepared. They spent time with one character so that another, in context, unrelated character can be fully equipped? That's not preparedness.so what would be the point of tents?Storing items while your character lives and resting to stop infection.
AntiHero (DayZ) 16 Posted June 24, 2013 (edited) I don't see how stockpiling gear for "another character" is any different from using a high level crafter to craft gear for a low level alt in most online games. Heck is it any different from saving something to pass on to anyone in real life?I understand to a degree the point about insta-gearing fresh spawns, but if person X has put in the hours to get the gear I don't see an issue with it.FWIW I dont stockpile too much, it stings too bad when it goes missing. But things like a map, sidearm, food and meds are just being prepared and if you dont choose to play that way, so be it. It never hurts to have a backup supply though. And the realism argument is moot. A weapons cache in real life would not vanish if the owner died. Many of us play DayZ BECAUSE it isn't like "most online games" It is supposed to be hard, harsh and maybe even darn near impossible to survive without wits, tactics, and most of all patience.I am not a fan of the fresh spawn having past life knowledge either. In my book that is just as unrealistic as the disappearing tent. This is a problem without a fix. In the end if another player spawns with visions of a great stash in the woods it really does not have a big impact on how I play.HOWEVER ... my biggest concern is over saturation of gear. Hopefully the item degradation and contamination elements in the SA will make this concern unwarranted.
harley001 315 Posted June 24, 2013 (edited) my idea would be the following....If you leave your tent unattended for too long it should start to "fall apart". Irl this would most likely happen if there were wild animals around.I hate bears. I was camping once and went fishing in a nearby river. A F*CKING BLACK BEAR STOLE A FISH FROM OUT OF MY HAND! <---- Me if I ever encounter a bear again. (Btw that person lived.) ....wait, I came here to do something....OH RIGHT THE THREAD! Uhhh well. I think having tents poof away when you die gets rid of the purpose. Maybe if they poof away if no used them for a while its fine. But just removing them when the guy who put them there dies makes them mostly useless. Edited June 24, 2013 by harley001
