What would you recommend?

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

I'm a big DayZ player that stopped playing about two months ago due to low frame rates on my current laptop. I'm looking into buying a "gaming laptop" (no hate pls). I'm looking into Asus laptops, specifically the Asus g75vw-ds71, and I'm wondering if this or a similiar laptop can run Arma and just DayZ in general on high settings. I have a 1500$ budget if you can recommend anything around this price. Thank you in advance.

Where are you purchasing it from? That Asus will get what you need at about -100.00 US dollars of your budget from new egg.

Wow, thanks for the fast reply man. I was thinking amazon. It's listed at 1,394 plus shipping and it comes with a bag and a mouse. Also, do you know if this could run total war games on high?

I use to play DayZ on an Asus G75. It will run it pretty damn close to max settings. I don't know about Total War but most games it can run on high/highest settings... for now anyway :/

I have a gaming laptop with pretty similar stats and bought it for 1400€ 9 months ago. I got no OS with it and bought it from a small internet shop, but I still think that you can have a laptop with that specs for a smaller price. Anthough I would think about the 17" screen. That machines are really big and clumsy, I am very happy with my 15" screen, because I use it for work too.

I myself am a laptop "gamer", and i wouldn't recommend you to buy an Asus. They are heavily overpriced.

Also, try finding one with at least a GTX 675mX. That's my GPU, and i run DayZ at around 40 fps on max settings.

With my current specs (that GPU and a 2,4 GHz quad-core) i can run almost anything on max or high.

Hey guys I'm buying a gaming laptop as well. I won't waste your time with a lengthy request, but I want to know whether DayZ is a resource heavy game or not. I'm wondering what game I could compare DayZ to for gaming performance?

Problem with ARMA2 is that the heavy performance it requests behaves rather odd compared to other pc-games. The engine doesnt intuitively distribute the load between gpu and cpu in an efficent manner, thus increasing your grafic setting leads to better performance in many cases. I dont know how to compare it to another game, but all in all I suggest getting a strong CPU.

I had an asus g75 vw before my current pc and yeah man it ran DayZ pretty smooth at mostly very high settings.

You'll love it.

Thanks. Yeah I've heard the engine isn't optimised for resource management.

Any rough guide as to what hardware will do the job?

Sorry mate, but you are overestimating my competence on that field. I think you need an ARMA veteran to tell you that. That ASUS book in the OP is pretty similar to my notebook and it works fine.

Thanks. I'm assuming that if I can run Arma 2 on pretty high settings than it could do the same on Arma 3.

Arma 3 is alot better optimized so you SHOULD.
